Depends on what you want. If you dont feel like tinkering and you want a 3rd Gen, go with a '00 GT. The brakes were better on the '00, they went cheap on the '01+. However, if you feel like tinkering, I'd agree withthe 2nd gen GSX. tuning a 3rd gen has been a real hassle. I love it, but in hindsight, I coulda made things alot simpler with a 2g.

1g's and 2g awd's are the only eclipse worth a shit.

I think ya should go with a 2g. Preferrably a GS-T or GSX. They can be a bitch at times, but easy to maintain once you learn their 4G63-T engine.

The funny thing is that the exterior of the 3g looks older than the 2g exterior. Isn't that a bitch?

It does, but I kind of like it, I kinda prefer the symmetrical look (the bumpy thing on the 2g hood always threw me for a loop).

And I do agree, I intend to find myself an AWD 2g at some point to tune and use for a race car. Tinkering on the 3g is very very complicated and I don't understand half the crap I've done. On the other hand, the 4G64 is incredibly reliable, and I want it to bear my children.

Haha, I hear you on that. I plan on getting me one of the 3g spyders eventually also. Its a nice cruising car for the summer.

Oh do you have one? I love those things...they are they ultimate sleepers!!

Don't get a gsx....the less there are around here the better (read: more unique my car is ). But yeah I agree with jay 3g & 4g are worthless, get a turbo 1/2g.

Yeah see even you signature tells you what kind of eclipse the guy should get. All that work and mid 200s.

    1g awd/2g awd

    550s
    2g maf
    boost controller
    fuel pump
    safc
    3in exhaust
    decent clutch

    300 whp and mid-high 12s.

Makes sense to me. And if you're real picky the 6 bolt 1g gank is a tad more reliable and the 1g head flows better, while th 2g manifolds and electronics are better. So make the best of both worlds, be like me:

    1g 6 bolt
    1g ported head
    2g manifold

If you can find a nice 1g laser awd (kinda rare) with a 6 bolt crank and 4 bolt lsd rear end, thats the 1g to get.

Wow that was alot of info I gave you without being a smart ass.

Summary: If you cant do a clean 1g/2g then don't do one at all. Especially if you cant do one equal to or better than Alex (silverjester) or a clean 1g at all, then just get a 3g or 4g. No need ruining a nice turbo awd somebody else could do better.

    rep points?

It all depends on what you are going for. I think for looks you cant go wrong with the new 06 or a 2g the ladies love these to body styles for some reason!! For speed i would go with a 1g cause of the 6 bolt and for looks and speed 2g!!

i'd go with a 2g awd...you got the looks and the power and the handling... crankwalk isnt all what ppl make it out to be. but swapping a 6 bolt would be fine too. depends on what u really want out of the car. 00+ just isnt an eclipse to me without the 4g63 just my opinion tho....good luck. hope you find what u want

Ask your parents for a hand-me-down DSM... they might have an old beat-up one lying around somewhere with a bike rack or something ugly like that on it... ya never know, right?

Eventhough I have a GS-T instead of the GSX, I concur w/ the quote below. They are atleast 6 years old, but still get looks from all of the ladies. Great design I must say

Thats not too much money for that. A built 6 bolt from a 1g in a spyder is nice.

If you like burning out with lack of top end, 2g GS-T.
If you like gaining 3+ cars on your comp off the line, 2g GS-X.

I say 2g cuz they are chick magnets!

Built 1g or 2g. Parts everywhere that are cheap and a lot of different ways to go very very fast easily.

Do not get a gs-t. As soon as you hit 280-300 whp you will be spinning everywhere you go. In the rain, IT SUCKS!

Get a 2G AWD GSX! Fun car to mod.

Word of advice though, go to a junk yard and find yourself a 6 bolt 4G63 or a 2.4l 4G64. More reliable and if you go with the 2.4l gobs of more torque.

My 96 gst spyder had crank walk twice.

The 3g eclipses are pretty much all the same shit. The brakes on the 2000 ARE better as somebody else said(dual piston caliper). i dont know if it is true for all of the gts during that year but there was a fedspec eclipse produced which had a "less restrictive" stock exhaust system.(minus the pre-cats)

All comes down to preference. Find your favorite color and style... Then call it a day.

Aside from 00... The differences between the specific years are way too mininal to be a topic of debate.

I swear...... DO NOT GET A 4G64! Ever.... They may have 0.4L more displacement, but the turbo makes up for it.

I own a GS-T. Those things are fun!
GS-T is mostly a show car.
    GS-X is a GO car.

But you can always buy a honda.....
