Now has anyone been able to use the SR20 in any of its S13/14/15 variations to comply in the OBD2 S14's and have it pass emissions? I've pretty much decided to KA-T but figured it was worth a shot on this forum. All help is appreciated.
it wont at all, period, end of story. the sr is not legal to install in any U.S. car except the sentra and g20, and then it can only be the na sr. even if you wired it so everything worked as nissan intended it to 1 of 2 things would happen. the first, they hook the tester to the car turn it on and nothing happens, at which point bad things will happen. the 2nd thing(and most likely reaction), they hook up the tester turn it on and the tester says, "this isnt a 240sx, what the hell?" at which point bad things will happen. if you got really luck the test might offer to take a bribe to pass the car or your luck could totally suck and your car get impounded and you pay a fine/go to jail. the only reason obd1 cars get away with it is because we only have to pass the sniffer test and have a cat.

the ka-t isnt really legal either, but as long as you keep the cat and all the o2 sensors you could get away with it. as long as you start with a good fresh motor and keep the boost low(7-8psi) you wont have any problems with it.

If you hook a scanner up to an SR car you can still pull codes and if there are no check engine lights you can pass a 96 and up FWD det car.

On a side note. Ka-t is legal. Turboing your car is not illegal. Greddy has turbo kits for cars that are carb excempt so even in california you can do it. You can pass emissions the same way every body else does with a factory car.

obd1 - put on a cat, lean out a little

obd2- no visual check so you dont need a cat but you can't be throwing any codes and have to be clean for a drive cycle (around 200 miles)

Now if you want to pass emissions really badly, you may want to think twice about the turboing your car thing. It will for sure make it harder.

i stand corrected on the fwd drive thing. and turbos arent legal, unless you buy one that says so, i.e. you cant make your own. but thats just argueing for the sake of it, both my sr and rb pass the sniffer test so what ever.
