Default MINI ME SWAP VTEC EVU PROBLEM!!!

ok, i did a mini me swap on a 92 civic HB and i have a d15B block and a d16y8 head, the car runs good with a p75 NON VTEC ECU, but when i put in a VTEC ecu( ive tried p28, p30, D16 vtec) and with all of them it bogs out on low rmp, does not pull at all under 3500 rmp but after 3500 pulls really good and vtec kicks in. whats the problem?

Are you sure ever ECU you've tried was good? All wires making good grounds? Is it throwing any codes?

Not sure exactly with that, but get that code checked and you could have the answer to your problem.

using the d16y8 head will cause the timing to be different, you willl need to get a chipped ECU and get a basemap or get a tune on it and have the timing straightened out..

The cam timing is different on the D16y8 from a D16z6. So using a p28 or any other ECU, it is looking for the engine to be running a little different than it is.

What do you mean by "basemap or get a tune"?

i am meaning get either a tune from a wideband or something on a Chipped ECU so that you can get the timing straightened out. Or you Could use an adjustable cam gear to fix the timing on the cam and run a stock p28..

you will need to mess with it, if I'm not mistaken because it has been awhile since I have messed with the single cams, but I think you need to advance it some.

what if he gets a y8 ecu and conversion harness and puts it in time. i have ran a y8 off a p28 and it ran fine, but it wasn't a mini me either. what do you think of the y8 ecu and conversion harness, then he has the right ecu for the head instead of spending bigger $ on a tune etc.

that is a very good possibility to have it run right. I can't say "for sure" because I haven't ever done one that way. but is a good idea to try.

atleast the head would be in time. also you can use a y7 dizzy to bolt up to the y8 head, you would need to do do a little re-wiring but i think i can help with that since i have both repair manuals. i used a y7 dizzy on a y8 head and ran a p28. but it may solve the problem. also what intake manifold are you using that is another thing i learned the hard way about.

ok i was messing with the cam timing and i tried advancing and retarding it and i tried a whole bunch of a variations +4.5, -4.5, +9, +10,+13.5, and a some others and i think it runs best a +4.5 but still misfires and no power. expecially at low rpm, i am gonna try to take off the timing belt completely and put the stock cam gear and try to just do it like that.

He could take all the guts out of each one and put the guts from the z6 in the y7 or y8 dizzy and it would be the correct distributor and wiring for what he has.

thats what i did but i think on some of them they are the same, i did not have the 92-95 manual back then, just my 96-00, but i did gut the dizzy but i think i used a d15b7 to guy and a y7 to put the stuff in and it worked fine. i'd have to look at my wiring diagrams for sure but i hated that two bolt crap everyone did.

whoa, cylinder one is near that hole where the iat sensor is but i doubt that would cause it. no compression on one cyl is no good. could be a few things. did anything happen when it started like a bang, a knock, running hot, etc?

You more than likely have a bent valve or something in Cylinder one.. I recently had the same problem in my car and had to get new valves.

actually when my hatch burned a valve it kind of had the same symptoms but it still ran just it ran rough and had no power. i don't know if you can actually see the valve movement by taking off the v/c and turning the crank by hand.
