Default Need help, car running rich and hesitating

    Ok guys, heres the deal.

I have an eg with a SOHC swap. Its been running a little rich but today its starting stuttering and missing at idle and low rpm.

I picked up a set of 180 injectors and a new set of plugs (it still has the p05 ecu so I'm thinking its pulsing the 230s on the motor too long and loading it up with fuel) that I was going to swap in tomorrow.

I may have a fouled plug, but what else do I need to look into. I've gotta get this thing running right by tomorrow night.

    Thanx in advance.

first off i would run the right injectors and ecu for the swap you have or a similar one, you may also be using the wrong FPR, or if you have an adjustable one it could be set too high. i get fuel burn on my si running the right ecu and having it at the very bottom of the minimum FP for my si and i still have black fuel burn smoke/soot on the back of the car. what motor do you have exactly?

OK guys, today I replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, and installed a set of 180 injectors with new o-rings.

The car ran great for 20 minutes and while I was cleaning up my tools it once again developed a miss and completely died. Now it just misses and bucks.

Its obviously thermal so what should I look for? Ignition module? Coil? One thing I did notice that may or may not be related is that there was some sort of goo inside my old dizzy cap...

I need help guys, this car has to get me to work on monday!

Nope, no scanner... Gotta go shadetree on this one. The ZC swap isn't new, its just not common because its not much of a performer. All suggestions still welcomed. Is there anyway to test the dizzy. I know thermal failure is common on older GM style HEI distributors but I just don't have the $ to keep guessing.

I had the same problem with my car and the problem was the throttle body. The throttle stop screw was set to low and the butterfly would get stuck closed. This made my car run rich and idle like s*^t. got new plugs and raised the throttle stop screw and my problem went away. i hope this can help you out.

Unless the ECU went bad, I doubt it only because the car has been running fine for three months.

i may have an ignitor somewhere that is a spare for you to try to see if that's the problem. any other sensor in the dizzy will throw a CEL but the ignitor wont.
