Installing Catch Can
i installed my oil catch can today but i have a problem and i was wondering if someone could help me out. this is how i had it set up : PCV to catchcan ( valve cover T'd in line ), catch can to intake mani. where the original PCV goes. I did this, I crank the car and it rev'd to 3000 and stayed there. Idk what I did wrong. Someone please help. Tell me the right way to rought it.
That sounds right.......did you buy a can or make one? You do have the air filter on top of the can right (sounds dumb but if you made it you might have forgot it)? PCV and VC should T and go into the can (check) then out of the can into the intake manifold(check) Sounds right to me.
When you say it stayed there......you mean it took a minute to drop, then dropped real slow......or you had to turn the car off with it at 3K?

vacuum leak. so is the catch can in parallel wit the pcv? why did you "t" to the valve cover?
well the car cranked up, then rev'd up and down like a vac leak. then rev'd to 3k and stayed so i shut the car off. I tried undoing the valve cover didnt do anything. and yes i made the can and i put a filter on top of the can.
have any pics of the set up?
what do u mean in parallel with the pcv ? and i t'd the valve cover in because the valve cover relases pressure lke the pcv so it wouldnt hurt to have it t'd in. but i undid the valve cover and still the samething.
nah i dont have any pics. i took everything off and hooked it back the way it was so i can drive it tomorrow
all the pcv is a one way check valve that allows the manifold to pull vacuum from the crankcase. it you put the thing in AFTER the pcv, and it has a breather, you in essence created a giant leak
x2 since you put a filter on the catch can you created a vacuum leak causing the car to rev high. and there is no need to use a T on the hose coming out of the pcv. it should go PCV-catch can-intake manifold. get rid of the filter on the catch can and your problem will be fixed.Originally Posted by Capiton23

do i need to gut the pcv valve ? what do i need too do in order for it to work from the pcv to intake mani.
get rid of the filter on your catch and make sure its sealed
did you cap the vacuum line you took the pcv off of? Like the fitting on the manifold. That would be a hellacious vacuum leak.
I have seen a lot of cans have a T in line.....come off the PCV valve and into the T, come off the VC and into the T, come off the T into the fitting on your can, come off the other fitting and into the intake manifold.

you can either have it breating to atmosphere or to the manifold. the breather lets it go to atmosphere. just block off the breather, and run it (on the valve cover side) before the pcv valve. (this way all the gunk gets caught by it and keeps the pcv clean, making it last longer.) do it inline, dont "T" it.
it goes like this:
Valve cover-->Catch can inlet-->catch can outlet --> PCV valve --> manifold.
be shure to block off the filter good. us JB weld or something and make sure its a good seal.
also, the other nub on the valve cover you should not block off, you should stick the little breater on this end.

no i plugged the hose off the catch can back on the manifold where the pcv goes
so people that have it running from the pcv -> catch can inlet, catch can outlet -> intake manifold, how do they do this ?
but basically run it from the valve cover to the can then from can to intake manifold. i dont understand when u said catch can -> pcv then manifold. how would i run the lines ? sorry im not understanding this so easy. its just really confusing me.
he is saying put the pcv valve after the catch can so it can collect all of the blow by.
ok take the pcv valve from the original location and put it after the catch can. what do u mean " after?" like put it in the hose coming from catch can to the intake manifold
yes, the way i have seen it done is weld a fitting where the pcv is and run a line from the fitting to the catch can and from the catch can to the pvc. the line that u run from the catch should be able to fit over the bottom of the pcv with a clap. then run the line from the pcv to the IM.
check out your rev. wire you might miss place it
ohh i dont want to weld or fabricate anthing. im just looking for a simple plug and play to help make my motor more reliable
ok just go pcv to catch can to IM. and make sure everything is nice and tight to avoid and vacuum leaks
but take the air filter off the catch can. cause that will cause a vac. leak, correct ?

it wont work as well, the T defeats the purpose IMO
ok so i guess just put a filter on the valve cover and be done
set it up like my drawing and it will be correct. this is best for N/a catch can apps. turbo you could possibly set it up slightly different, but for N/a this is best
if you put the filter on the valve cover it will get drenched in oil. just dont use the filter at all
ok, i only have 1 nub on my VC ( D16Z6 ) so your saying the black elbow piece which is the PCV valve, take it and place where u have it on the drawing. How will this help ?
you dont have to put the pvc there. leave it on your valve cover and run a line from the pcv to the catch can then to the IM

oh, well i wasnt sure how your PCV was set up, mine has 2 nubs on the VC, ones a fresh air inlet and ones to the manifold. the pcv is in between two hoses going to the manifold. but if its attached to the VC leave it and install the catch can in line after it.
Take your pcv black box off and get a BR block fitting. Have a -12an fitting welded to your vc.
All other ways are a waste of time.

ok so i know it comes off the VC. but were does the other side of the catch can go ? i cant really see it in the pic.
