If your going to learn...then that means your uncles friend has the ability to teach? why are you asking for advice here? if you will only get real hands on at the time this takes place?

    1) Pay attention to the person teaching you.

    2) Wear a mask.

    3) Don't smoke in the paint booth.

    Anything else?

ummmmm i just dont smoke when im painting silver or white......... ashes in clear suck.

grab a few panels in your uncles shop..... and start spraying them..... practice base coat... then move on to clear coat....

painting is easy..... just requires seat time..

dont spray single stages until you get base clear down pat.....

single stages require a bit of skill as its a one shot process....

learn how to mix.... and how to read a mixing cup....

zahn cup is your friend......if you or your uncle knows what that is....

i like to reduce my paints very thin...... reduces the chance of orange peel..... and i can run lower air tip pressure.

goood luck and get ready to fuck some shit up

here is a tip..... if its your uncles shopp....

rent booth time.... and do a bunch of side hustles at night. make sure you or your uncle has no liability.....

theres plenty of people that dont want primer jobs.... and would prolly be willing to give you a shot......

have the people do the prep so all you gotta do is mask and spray n bake.

booth time should be charged for your uncle.

paint either bought from uncle or provided by guinea pig.

    and you work fpr tips....

    win win situation

great idea do it before you burn out on it.

but also when you grab that panel knock the hell out of it with a hammer, then fix it and paint it. i had to start at the bottom in a body shop a long time ago sweeping, and tape/paper. this is how i taught my self. good luck and get ready to make a mess

you need to know your gun and be able to tear it apart and put it back together.

    know the controls, air,fluid,patteren

    overlap atleast 50%

    even strokes

    feather on the outsides

start 50% over or below panel where you start
    atomize

be able to adjust if it splatters big drop or little

know what dry spray, and overspray is

never paint over twice, wait for it to flash then put another coat on before kicks, then you have to wait till it drys completely. if not it want burn in.

dont be afraid to wet the panel, if so it may cause dry spray

    be patient, take your time.

one good thing i learned was, spit in your paint after you mix it, and mix it in. it will help reduce the chance of fish eye. been doing this forever and seems to work. never had fish eyes
