So I recently got a tear in my top. Its about 1" to a 1.5" long and maybe a centimeter in width. What can I do to fix it and make it look like nothing ever happened, and can a car upholster make it look new?

Life begins at 6000 RPMS.. You will notice an audible change in engine noise, large increase in acceleration and any female passengers will immidiately start to remove their clothing.
No there isn't anything you can do to make it look new again. Don't patch it. Tried that.
Go to autozone and get black RTV silicone. It keeps water out and its rubbery so you can still put your top down and up without tearing it.
I have the same issue on my AP2. Probably gonna stitch it.

Might be time to get a new top. I had to get a couple for my convertibles over the last couple years. I used topsonline.com. Good prices. Check em out. The only thing that will really suck is trying to get it put on the frame. That is a pain in the ass.
^ and I have to worry about the wiring w/the rear defroster too. Im fucking pissed.
