    Default CEL for gas cap

I've had my car diagnosed at oreilly's and autozone and they said the code showed that my gas cap or some EVAP sensor was bad.

i dont remember the code, but I had my gas cap tested at the emissions place and it checked out fine.. i'd like to know any other symptoms i could check for.

    thanks.

    stock b16a2 no modifications.

    ps.

I replaced the PCV valve which was broken and replaced the hose that it connected to. this did not fix the problem.

The code reads "Evaporative emission control system leak detected (_____)" It tells you the size of the leak in the parenthesis; large, medium, small, very small. Those can be indicators of where to start looking. Very large or large could mean the cap wasnt on at all or there is an evap hose disconnected/broken. The other sizes point to things like the gas cap having a bad gasket or a cracked or split evap hose. Those hoses run from the top of your gas tank to your charcoal/fuel canister on your firewall.

if the code was P1457 then it most cases is the cap use a OEM HONDA ONLY no cheap aftershit that will still kick this code!

ALSO you can NOT go by the emission stations check because your car and cars computer is different then the emissions stations

I had the emissions station check my gas cap because they have to check the gas cap during the emissions test. The cap tested out..

And if your CEL is on for evap I almost guarantee you're running rich whether you know it or not.

It could very be a gas cap!

Most Honda/acura cars that kick this code P1457 is most of the time the cap...Get a KNOWN good OEM HONDA cap and clear code and tighten it until it clicks, and re try .....let us know what happens

When it comes to Honda's, there are two main reason for throwing that code. The gas cap is the easiest and cheapest fix, so I would change that out first just to eliminate it. The next time you fill up... listen carefully for the pshhhhhh (purge noise) from the gas tank when you first open the cap. If present, then it was the cap, if not, then it is the bypass solenoid valve under the car next to the gas tank. There are ways of testing this, but it is very involved and would be easier to show instead of described. I use to work at the Acura dealership and 9 times out of 10 ...changing out the solenoid will fix the problem. The thing is....it cost like 250 (not including installation cost).........for this much i could get a chipped p28, dup the map, and turn the ck light off for less....the 2 evap codes apply to the emissions system only and is independent to the car's electronic/fuel sys....it will not have an effect on the car's overall operation

Once the light came on, and after you took gas cap off and back on, did you ever reset it by unplugging the battery? My 3g eclipse had the code because the cap wasn't on tight one time. Was told I had to reset it after I put it on there or the light would stay on. The driving was not effected or anything, once I unhooked the battery and hooked it back up a few minutes later the code never came back on.
Back to being stock and slow
