Exclamation Serious concern with the SRT4...knocking?

Or what I think is knocking? lulz

Ok, so last night my car decided to lose its power steering abilities, along with a loud dinging noise, accompanied by a stall & oil light. Right as I turned into a neighborhood...

    1. I checked the oil level, fine. I just had it changed like 30 days ago.

    2. It only has like 70K miles on it [Not a clunker, even though it is a neon.]

    3. I've never had issues with it before, no symptoms leading up to this disaterous event.

So serious opinions ONLY....Im trying to get some info before I have it towed somewhere this evening.....Kthx

My first thought would be a spun bearing or a rod knocking.

    Did it sound like this?

Had one knock, then lock up. It ended up being the bolts in the flex plate backed out and locked up against the motor...

No, from the factory the SRT4 has a clutch/flywheel combo that is made together and can't be taken apart. This whole thing bolts to a flexplate with 4 bolts just like a tq conv does. It is very common on the SRT4s for these bolts to come loose.

Yeah, Im really just not sure whats going on with it. This car has been great so far...

I think Im going to take it somewhere...have it checked out and see what the damage is...

Good thing is, it drives. Atleast the 20 or so feet that it does..

I have an aftermarket clutch.....Competition Clutch, made for my car.

So....its not anything to do with the clutch, I am pretty sure. Then again, anything is possible.

So I moved the car this morning, pulled it into the driveway from the street and for a whole 20 seconds she ran good.....then (plop, plop, plop.....) and it died.

Dont run it anymore, you're probably doing more damage each time you do. Depending on whether the engine can even be salvaged at this point. Does the oil light still come on while its running?

have you did anythin to the car prior to what had happend? like install anything new ..use different type of oil..or change anything?

how does the motor run when you put it in gear? does is feel shakey on low rpm?
do you have trouble starting it? how does it idle?

riding low is like a religion

Nothing. It has an intake...basically stock. I had the oil changed, but used full synthetic like normal...nothing out of the ordinary.

Sometimes it kinda shakes when I put it into first gear, almost like its ablout to stall, but only once in a while. lol.

Its weird because it was running great and then boom, out of nowhere, shuts off.

Im having it towed somewhere Monday to see what the issue is.

Personally, I think it is fuel related.....we shall see
