    Default automatic tranny problem

so my buddy change his radiator on his 97 integra (automatic). He forgot to reconnect the Transmission line that goes to the lower part of the radiator.

He started the car and there goes all the transmission fluid all over the driveway..he drove the car in and out of the garage a few time and now it won't go in to gear. we got some tranny fluid for it but it still the same.

On the shifter (P-R-N-D4-D3-D2-D1) there is no light on the D4.
the car will shift to all gear but feel like it on N and on gear P is grind(alot).

Hope some one can help me out on this!!!

just to let you know, i never work on an automatic before.

    let that be said:

is it the same as a 5 speed clutch? is it located on the block or in the tranny?

inside the tranny there are a series of small clutch packs that look like this:

when the line was left off leaving a break in the flow the pump went dry and starved the clutch packs and converter. find some way to push the fluid through to bleed air out just like if an oil pump on some things are installed dry it wont pick the oil up. it needs to be reprimed if not ran too long and fried.
LET ME GUESS... YOU MISSED A GEAR!

Make sure you put enough fluid back in it. Usually just dumping the fluid out won't hurt anything immediately. The clutches work off hydraulic pressure, and if there is no fluid, there is no pressure, which means there is no clutch apply. If this just happened in the driveway, I seriously doubt it hurt it, unless the car just ran for an obscene amount of time with no fluid. If that was the case, it would have damaged the pump from no lube. Dump 3 or 4 quarts of fluid in it, and see if it doesn't start working.

    god damn!!!!!

so he bought another transmisson last week right?
last light we was getting ready to lift the car up to remove the axle.
i notice that the PHUCKING AXLE had poped out from the transmission.
so i tapped it back in and that is it....

we have never even look there before. F&$@ing waste of time and money!

now he got another tranny that he don't even need. (obd1 tranny)

    the car run fine now!!

thanks to everybody that try to help

well just remind him not to run the car without fluid. dont matter if its oil/tranny fluid/anti-freeze/vtec fluid w\e.
they all end up with a bad result.
