Hey Everyone! Thought Id throw myself into the mazda section. Recently bought a 1988 RX-7, Remanufactured engine with 80k, LSD, BBS wheels off of a vert, Body is in very good condition for the age and its is in absolute great condition. It has a few things wrong with it, but not too much. Transmission Whines/Vibrates, So I need a new one of those and I cant seem to get an aftermarket intake on the damn thing =/. But Im loving it so far, It rides like a dream on the Highway, and runs good just driving around. The only thing is......It about chokes me to death with exhaust fumes, Thank god for no emissions in hall county. Looking forward to feedback!( And Im not really sure were to get started in the meets and all of that, so If you know any that go down near Hall county, Hit me up )

I was around this car for a while, I know the guy who had it before Austin. It's a good ride so don't mess it up, we don't need another riced out or wrecked FC.

Hehe it doesnt show signs of breaking anytime soon, Im at a standstill with the exhaust, I just hate the bumblebee noise they make when they have exhausts, Maybe just throw some flowmaster mufflers on it XD.

Start by changing the sparkplugs. also, check for any exhaust leaks and unplugged holes in the firewall/floorboard. As far as slapping a muffler on it... try a decent used catback like a greddy or Racing Beat. Rotaries are harsh on exhaust and you need a good quality setup.

You may also need to check the MAF sensor to see if it is dirty, or if you have any air leaks between it and lower intake manifold. That can cause the car to run rich or inconsistant. You can also adjust the maf a little to dial in the reading a little more (more suited for an experienced gearhead).

It looks like it has new plugs and wires, After riding in it you smell like gas fumes, So something might be up, I removed the MAF and looked at it everything, it was real clean, no broken-ness or anything, I need a MAF adapter now to hook up the aftermarket intake, The shitting thing is, 2 exhausts = double $ for exhausts over a regular car = /.

Check the pulsation damper on the main fuel rail. These will start to leak over time.

if it floods often change your fuel pump, i've seen some crazy shit & i know changing a bad fuel pump should clear stuff up you know, i mean it is a 20+ yr old car, might have the same fuel pump from back in the day, do you tune up as well.

As for running rich, check injectors as well, sometimes they are just dirty & need to be cleaned or flow tested to see what wrong with them.

Make sure you have a good O2 sensor as well, & like they said clean the MAF

& Sheldon said something about a pulsation damper, check it out as well, we wouldnt want to see a FC at the junk yard.
