Default So i tried to remove one of the bolts from my valve cover...

and this happened. Am I fucked? Any suggestions for what to do?
The bolt seems to have broken off in the hole.
    I have a D16y7 in a 99 EK Hatch
Is there some sort of fix I can do to keep the car running another few 1000 miles, or do I need to get a new head/valve cover?

Looks like the stud broke off in the head. It's repairable. Either snatch it out or drill it out and put in a new insert if there is space. Never had a insert in the motor though. If it runs ok for now, put a rag in the hole to keep debry at bay. And repair when you get a moment.

You may be able to get it out. Probably salvageable.

I haven't even attempted to crank the engine. I was thinking of trying to plug the hole so i can drive it to a shop.

It will leak some oil, but as long as you do not have to drive too far, it would be ok.

i broke a bolt on my fuel rail like that but yours is down in there so im not sure if you can get to it take a dremel tool and make a line across the bolt and just unscrew with a flathead screw driver.

If the bolt snapped, then it probably wont loosen with a screwdriver.

it could have snapped because just the top was twisting and broke off but if the bolt is shorter it wont be under as much torque or stress whatever you wanna call it and it should come out

cant afford to replace whole head right now. I have $900 and have to pay a $300 ticket plus insurance. No job either.
edit:if I could afford to replace head, I would go with a minime swap

dude thats a do it your selfer Pep Boys sell a Bolt extractor tool for that size bolt its long square little rod with sharp edges at the end, you grabbed a drill bit about the sized of the bolt and drill a hole at the very center of the broken bolt inside the head, becarefull doing this part cause the drill bit tends to slip of the side. after you achieve the hole in the bolt you grab the extractor tool insert the sharp end on the hole you made and the you tap it with a hammer get good and tight then twist away

if you cant do it PM ME and ill do it for a small fee... ofcourse

Been there, done that, used a screw driver to twist it out! Luckily mine was loose! Easy outs are fun, just dont break that joker off in there! Then you truly are screwed (for the most part)!
