AIRBOX/INTAKE HELP PLEEZ!!!!

wassup. check this out.
today i got my intake for the car(1997 1.8l 4dr mirage) and me and a friend of mine were going to install becuase it looked pretty easy. but the first thing i did was take the old tube out. after i took that one out i started my car before continuing and it started then shut off after a few seconds
so i did all kind of tests and found out that when the old airbox is not connected to the intake by the tube the car would shut down, im guessing cuz computers and the air intake sensor or sumthin like that. but i was going to take the airbox out and put my intake in. does anone know what to do. because if i just remove one tube and already have problems then i dont want to continue to take the airbox out until i know whats up. thnx

post up pictures and i can help better.. but my guess is... being as the car is a mirage it is also a karman vortex mass air flow system. when you remove the "air box" and the pipe that heads to the intake the car has no way of registering how much air is entering the system there for it has no way of knowing how much fuel to provide, there for it runs like shit and dies quickly.

put the intake on properly and you shouldnt have any problems.
