Default fwd Honda Drag Car.. b vs d opinions

So, I'm interested in building a purpose built drag car (on a limited budget I might add).. What I wanna know, from the guys with experience in this field, are the pro's and con's of using a d series vs. a b series engine. I will indeed be turbocharging the car, my question is what benefits does the b-series carry over the d in drag racing? most of the high horsepower fwd cars I see just blow their tires away the first quarter of the track so I figure suspension and tire setup I guess have more advantages than sheer horsepower....

I'm not trying to break any records, I'm just looking for something to do to occupy myself.. I know this is not the ideal car for this sport, but hey, it's all I have to work with.

I say D series. They could make about the same power, but the D series will cost alot less, and you'll most likely buy a honda with a D in it. Just put a few hundred bucks in the bottom end, throw a vtec head on it, boost it. Since you're one a budget.

yeah, right now I'm leaning more towards a D just because of cost factors... just seeing if anyone had any good points that might sway me the other direction.

    IMO, not much differences.

I'd go D series, all day.

I don't have alot of experience in the drag racing field, but I'm thinking maybe 300-350 whp with a mildy built bottum end, and slicks will get me somewhat competitive. Keep in mind that this isn't my daily driver so I'm not too terribly worried about wear and tear. Really, I'm just trying to see the pro's and con's of the engines. I know the d is lighter and cheaper, but the b has better headflow and stronger transmissions (i think!)..

Go D series. Put a few hundred bucks in your bottom end and make more than that.

Theres a thread on here how some guy made like 400whp with 500 in the bottom end.

sounds like you know more then you think. everything your saying is correct. I would go with a D simply because of the power goal and cost....

cool, if that's all the power you want then i'd go d series but you could get a stock b18c1 and itll make 400whp all day long and never blow on a good tune

now for the next ? how fast are you wanting to go? that will give us a even better idea of the power you're gonna have to have if you're looking for a specific time at the track

With the setup in the thread I posted.

would think it's possible, know how much that chassis would weigh? i would think the setup should be good fpr mid 12's with that power so 8's shouldnt be a problem in the 1/8th but i'm a lil rusty on fwd stuff nowadays.

bet some of the guys get in this thread after the weekend and we can get you a definite answer now that we're narrowiong down what you're looking for and the times you want. do keep in mind with fwd drag the wheel spin is moving the car, you do want it to slip like that, not too much but it does need to spin

i mean if your just flat broke and on a straight budget (which it would help to list your budget). d will get u there. lets face facts a stock sleeved 500 hp d isnt going to last long same for a b an u will go threw motors. so u really cant use that as your basis. me id start with a b just a better start platform. for a few hundred bux motor into the swap u can have higher hp motor. because i your not boosted right off the bat.

this is a very noob question is a high goal for your knowledge level. i see people all the time want to just head strong into something like this and hell it never happens (swap and boost same time for a first timer). start off with a nice clean swap learn a few things then step up to the next level after you get some time skills under your belt.

sry for the lack on punctuation other than periods. its the internet i dont use them unless its important.

^-- I'm an inferior mechanic, broke, and I'm just going to blow everything up anyway. Gotcha.

Anyway, I have a question on B-series transmission gearing. I've had a b16 that went through an LS transmission that was swapped with a GSR transmission. But I've also driven cars with ridiculously shorter gears like the b16 transmissions. Does the car actually accellerate faster or is the time and power wasted with the shorter tranny?

Drag racing on a budget, just go buy a 87-93 mustang and a 175 hp Nitrous kit.. Thats drag racing on a budget... But seriously I like B18 Non vtec swaps with boost.. Great tranny for boost, and could easily make your power goals.. And believe it or not once the "hp bug" bites, you will be looking for more and more hp so I say start with B series..
