    Default e34 Xenon/Euro/Etc Lights

So after having my first question answered, I come to you with another.
I'm hearing that the light output on the factory e34 lights sucks, and that the Euro lights are way better - with the projectors and whatnot.

Is this true? I mean...how awesome is the light output?
I'm doing a retrofit in a set of Morettes on a Subaru. The light output is fucking incredible, but the beam pattern is wrong and I don't want to blind anyone once I have my lights aimed properly. I've learned that the lights from the e34 will fit with little or no modification, but I sure as hell don't want to downgrade!

Any input would be welcome. Thanks!

E34 lights are very similar to E30 lights. You can find projectors in the US models that have the correct beam pattern. I have them in my E30 and with a set of HID's they'll light up pretty good. You can get the TSX projectors and retrofit them into either housing with a little modification. Search for TSX retrofit on some BMW forums and you'll get a few write ups.

Yeah - but then I'd be retrofitting a retrofit, and that just seems like an Xzibit joke waiting to happen.
Are the projectors optimized for HIDs? Putting HID lights in non-HID projectors is a big no-no.
Which US models had the projectors - the M5, I know, but what else?
If anyone knows where I could get a set that isn't too unbelievably expensive, that'd be rad.

Get a set of ellipsoid lights. They are US spec and come with 93+ models.

The cutoff is great and won't blind oncoming traffic like the free form housings.

I have 35w 8000k and the cutoff is awesome and light output is decent.

I wouldn't put HIDs in a non-HID housing no matter what. I'll just go ahead and use nice halogen bulbs until I could get the money for a nice HID retrofit.
I meant the ellipsoid lights - so I'm glad everyone has good things to say about them.
Now if only I could find some with a USDM beam pattern locally...

The elipsoids are fine with HID's. Hundreds of folks have done it and they have a great cutoff. Its not like putting them in normal headlights that blind oncoming drivers. They're not made for HID's but they work quite well and don't have any issues with melting or anything.

I've got elips's on my E30 and they have a solid and flat cutoff. Not like normal headlights would, and way better than the free forms.

Yeah. If Dinan would return my PMs () I'd already have my hands on a set!
