    Exclamation SRT-4 Sputter Problem

Hey, my friend has a 04 SRT-4 neon and it has a few mods like GT35R with a mopar cold air intake, aftermarket fuel rail with 1000cc injectors and also a large front mount. Well all of a sudden lately it has developed a sputter at cruising speed or when your just a little on the gas in any gear. Well the plugs have been changed and gapped and the plug wires are fine. I can watch the wideband when it starts to sputter but nothing changes. I also looked at the graph on the S-AFC and it shows the throttle line jumping up and down. Does anyone have any insight to this problem?

Was the turbo new when he bought it? Is there any smoke? If nothing is showing on the wideband then more than likely it is not an A/F problem. Pull the intercooler piping apart and check to see if there is any oil in the pipes. Check the plugs and see if they have any oil residue on them. If not check the TPS like has already been stated. Sounds like you are having an ignition issue to me though. Although the coil pack seems fine, under a load like part throttle pulling up a hill your coilpack can start to break up but not that often. Most I've seen either work or not. I'm just trying to give you a few easy things to check first.

I know mine did that when it was stock. the distibutor and the wires had to be replaced. but it was a recall so they did it for free.

Holy crap 1000CC's on a SAFC?!?!?! Thats why right there.. thats insane for that amount of fuel. You need a flash tune to get the LTFT's right with that much fuel. is there a returnline on it?

Look into a bad injector or o-ring or the intake manifold leaking.

^ great thought i was thinking 1000cc injectors witht that turbo is nice but the tune device is not going to cut it unless he only going to run like 12lbs.But i wouldnt use safc on that srt4 if it was making anything over 330whp just my roockie thought..

Troof... When you use anything over 650's on the stock PCM or even 750s WITH a returnline. Your asking for a word of hurt on a piggyback like a SAFC,DTEC,Emanage. You will not be able to get a good idle let alone a good low trim fuel level for cruising and such. Most no one these days uses them and opts for the DSP,SCT,EMS,AEM FIC. That way you do not increase the timing when you pull fuel. And can have a like stock idle and waaay more reliably

Well he told me that he thinks he got hold of some bad gas but I do agree about the car needing a tune and better fuel management. I will keep everyone posted and thanks for all the replies!!!!
