    Default fuel pump engage

i just bought a 94 civic ex and i noticed that it takes a lil while to get it started. i asked a friend to have a look at it...and he told me that i have to wait for the fuel pump to engage. i understand that and all, but it can sometimes take anywhere from 5 sec to about 2 min. is there a way to remedy this situation..or am i really just stuck with this un predictable wait?

Drop the tank and check the fuel lines. You might have a pin hole in the hose from the pump to the sending unit. Or you may have a bad fuel pump. More than likely, you're sucking air from somewhere and it's possibly in the tank. Consider replacing the fuel pump assembly to remedy your problem.

    K series 626. That's right. It's got a K in it.

between the 5 sec to 2min mark...is when i'll hear that small faint hum of the fuel pump engaging. after i hear the hum, a small click and i can start the engine...if i wasn't paying attention...i know that after the check engine light goes off, i can start the car..

no idea wut KOEO is? i'm not so wise on the abbreviations as of yet...so break it down so that someone's mom could understand it

KOEO - key on engine off

i would check your main relay before pulling the pump. or get a test light out and start back tracking where the power failure is from the pump forward.

yep, if the main relay is out then it would kill a few other components of your car, including the fuel pump.

alright i read up on the main-relay problem...and found it in my car...seems like a simple fix.
but let's say that this doesn't fix it...the fuel pump would be next correct.

remember that the fuel pump does engage..it just takes some time for it to do some (more often than not)
if the car has been running or is still a bit warm..it takes anywhere from 5sec to 30sec.
but if i try to start it up from hours of sitting, it takes 30 sec to 2 min...so let me know

go to the pump with a test light find the switched hot wire. turn the key on if u have instant power its your pump if no power and u wait 5 sec - 2 min and it comes on its the relay. i should have said that to begin with but i got a lot going on right now.
