Default Rattling noise when start up??

Any one get this sounds off their sr20? i got a 99 infiniti g20 and i get this every morn or every now and then but it last for 1-2 secs. i thought it was an old motor but since my old motor had mess't up..and had swap in a 36 motor.. still the same thing. I heard a mechanic says that the "oil pump" pumping it's oil and nissan sr20 motor oil pump is no good! Is there any aftermarket oil pump that is suppose to be better then the oem? thanx

hydraulic lifters... run some BG MOA oil additive for your next couple oil changes, or do it the old fashioned way and drop in about a half quart of ATF fluid a few days before you change the oil. just don't beat on the engine with the ATF in there. it will get all the crud out of the lifters and they will quiet down.

Or it could be your timing chain. Whats the mileage? Also try g20.net for more info on your p11, those guys are pretty knowledgeable.

Get the nismo water and oil pump.

The car will run a lot better and stop rattling.

Bullshit. The timing chain can be loud at startup because its taking up slack. Ever heard a Ka that is first showing signs of tc problems? Turn on, clack clack clack for a while and then quietens down. Eventually it will be at the rest of the rpm range.

My g20 had a high port 20de in it with the previous owner and before he swapped the motor it needed a tc replacement and did the same thing.

Im sure the lifters are nasty too though but I dont want him to think it may be a 100% easy fix.

well the MOA or ATF additive can help both the TCT issue and the lifters by cleaning the crud blocking them up and keeping the pressure from pumping them up.

the new motor had 36k on it..open the valve cover and it's clean like new... my old motor had lots of crude sticking on the valve cover ..etc..that u can see when u open the valve cover. this is probly why my motor got mess't up even tho i had use full synthetic every 5k! I bought the car w/54k and put 40k on it and the thing that sucks is that motor been well kept up. so if my new motor is only 36k..i wouldn't need to use that atf , or BG MOA oil addictive do i?
