Default vtec not engaging/ help please

ok so i have a DOHC vtec but it wont engage at all.
i have tried a chipped p28 to avoid knock sensor, and all those other things

wat can it be? vtec is wired up right.
i have a obd1 non-vtec wire harness with an obd2 distributor and alternator.

wat the hell can it be?

if it's a non-vtec wiring harness then there is no wire to pins a4 or d6 (kinda needed for vtec/vts/vtp). wire those up and then let us know if it's not working.

Do you have any CEL on? Did you wire it correctly? If you butt plugged the pins to the wire, it could have came loose.

    then there is something wrong:
    check oil level
jump solinoid directly to batt and see if it clicks
pull solinoid to see if it's clogged up
put oil pressure gauge on front port of head and see if oil pressure gets high enough
put oil pressure gauge on back of block and see if oil pressure gets high enough

should have 65ish psi while pulling for vtec

if all that checks ok then check and see if oil pan is dented in or if you used a pan from one block and pickup from another. if the pickup is too close to the bottom of the pan it'll suck up the oil faster than it can make it to the bottom of the pan causing it to cavitate and lose oil pressure. if that's ok then pull the pickup and check the screen to make sure it's not clogged up. if that's ok then it's possible there are some pins left out of the rockers preventing them from locking (quite possible if the head was worked).

failing all that there could also be something wrong w/ the ecu.

you've got some diagnostic to go through.

    updates!!

i already fixed all the CEL codes... which was o2,vtec ( spool and pressure switch wires were backwards ), vss, and electrical load. only one code is left which is 9... which i think is because when whomever did the swap he didnt convert the obd2 dizzy to obd1 properly

test drove the car and it ran nearly 100% better, and it seemed as if vtec hit.. pulls alot better up top.

bear in mind this is a 1.6 ecu on a 1.8
