Normally vehicles built after June/July are considered the following year, just round up.

BMW is pretty right on that they change the model year on the ninth month. September of 95 would be a 1996 model year.

It can deviate from this when body styles are changing.

I've always went by September for years until i saw a few [non BMW's] that were earlier but registered as the following year.
