How do you guys detail your engine bays?
With the older cars I just spray engine degreaseing foam generously, let it sit, and then wash it off.
I'm sure there is a better (safer) way of doing it. Let me know how you guys do it!

thats how i do it, then ill get the really gross parts with a rag and/or plastic bristle brush and the do it again.
i use formula 50 (very much like purple power or mean green) and spray somewhat sparingly with water, but enough to rinse it well. Otherwise, the chemical is strong enough to screw up aluminum and rapidly oxidize it, not to keen on paint if you aren't careful.
grease lighting FTW
I do what these other guys have said then soak it down with tire wet foam and wipe it off with a rag to give it a good shine.

I stay away from degreasers because they oxidize various surrfaces and leave powdery residue. I just use water and hand wipe everywhere I can get my hand into...and occasionally wipe on some silicone to various parts to make them a little extra clean (brake master cyl, radiator/intercooler hoses, fuse box, power steering res. etc...). I don't like my engine bay to look overly new and shiny, just clean and simple.

Thanks guys!
After 10k miles I have a lot of dust in the engine bay. The hood is really large and its kinda hard to get everywhere but I'll see what I can do...

But for hoses i use the leather wipes for the inside of my car after they get all dirty.

pull the motor, use Q-Tips and windex.......
Ok no, really.....dilute grease lighting spray and rinse. You may want to cover accessories and fuseblocks as a precaution. I have read a few horror stories.

i just spray simple green all over the place, scrub with a moderately stiff bristle brush and rinse with the water hose... and then repeat until i see its very clean.
then let the bay dry up with the hood open and then put engine detailer or tire shine on random things lol
havent really cleaned the camaro's bay yet,but i used simple green to clean my celica...and it worked great.
Gonna clean the Stang's bay up tommorrow if it isn't cold.

Fuck stance. Stance is for kids in skinny jeans with Justin Beiber haircuts. You don't need stance when you got swagger.
Purple power, brake cleaner, Engine brite, they all work pretty well, get your hands dirty no matter what.
i just repaint my shit when it gets dirty

One Big Ass Mistake America
i have found that useing degreasers can leave that white residue, but if you clean your engine bay before you wash your car that its good to spray wd40 around the entire bay. Stay away from alternator and avoid spraying in areas with electronics that may puddle. after you spray the engine area and cooling hoses just clean off excess with a rag. The wd40 leaves a nice shine and also protects plastics and rubber,"helps to keep them moist"![]()
