Default 93 Mustang Tachometer and Check Engine issue

I have a 93 Mustang with a 2.3L 4 cylinder automatic and Im having some issues.

My tachometer started acting up a few days ago, it would start out fine then the needle would drop to a lower rpm than the engine was doing, then it would bounce back, no problem.

Then today the needle dropped and the check engine light came on, once the needle went back to normal the light went out. It did this a few more times when I came home.

Has this happened to anyone else and can anyone advise me on whats going on and how to fix it?

    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    welcome to IA
see if you can find a wiring diagram for the gauge cluster. if the engine RPM stays consistent but the gauge indicates a drop then there might be a wiring issue(intermitent ground, voltage drop ect.). also might want to search in mustang specific forums

you know 90% of hondas are still on the roads today....

the other 10% were fortunate enough to make it home.

thats not true but seemed like a good time for that joke.

Thanks, I will try out some mustang forums.

As far as Hondas.. I like Preludes but I prefer RWD cars and the s2000 makes me think of the fast and the furious everytime i see one. no idea why.

    too fast fo yall
