    Default 1985 s10

im working on this s10. i gave it a once over found out the motors blown. called the few place that was open today. none have the motor or can get it. so what i need to know is what are some compatible swap for this thing. nothing fancy no ls1 type shit. just something that will get it back on the road with the lease amount of modding. it currently has a lr4 2.8l 2 bbl.

reps for all whos answers are worth a shit.

You can buy a SBC swap kit for $517 from S10V8.com it uses the 2.8 frame mounts which you already have. Wouldn't cost too much more to make a fun little rig out of it. A buddy of mine actually had his 2.8L S10 hit yesterday, if its totaled I'll ask him about the motor for you.

A stock 4.3 auto will bolt to it, but not your 2.8. You can pick up a TH350 in junkyards pretty reasonable so I would just go that route.

Get a Camaro motor 2.8L it has a different cam set up for Highway an gas mileage but over all bolts right up with ease!

will not have alot of torque then the s10 2.8L but will have more highway !

I wouldnt put a V8 in it for a daily, I wouldnt go threw the trouble to change it to a 4.3L Fi I would just leave it the way it is an install a 2.8L camaro motor, if you try an change it to a 4.3 you will need a new tranny the 2.8L an 4.3 are different bellhousings. Hope I helped!

id say put the 4.3 in it, but if you do that then you might as well put a 350 in it.

2.8 has plenty of power. i pull cars with my 92 gmc. its probably the most maintained 2.8 on the planet i would drive it anywhere. they are not to bad to work on. but the engine you are thinking about is the 3.4 that came out of camaros they have a little more power. my buddy put one in his 2.8 s10 and you really cant tell the diffrence.

waste unless your racing it, or want something that big, doesnt hook for crap when pulling, try an take a s10 2wd with a V8 and no LSD and pull a 24Ft boat out of the water!

with the gearing and weight of a s10 i would not worry about one with a diffrent cam i dont think it would make a noticable diffrence.

i am told you need to do quite a bit of wiring to drop a 4.3 in the efi 2.8 models. as well as the trans. but yours being a 85 model i dont think the 4.3 ever came with a carb set up. so i would just throw in another 2.8

Agree 100% And you can get camaro 2.8L easier ..and its a Drop in , 4.3L install is a pain an cost more, 350 is just point less unless your racing it, for something a daily etc 2.8L FTW !! End Of Story!
