Thread: Oil paint vs Basecoat/clearcoat?

    I would recommend urethane based base + clear. Lasts longer and relatively cheap these days. Priced around $500 for a cheap spray job. Or if you are strapped on cash a single stage urethane will run around $200 if you were to do yourself.

    Enamel or Oil that you're calling it can be done for $50, but it takes a lot of sanding to get it smoothed out. If you are talking about the roller method that I've seen. So in what $ you save you're taking more time to work out the imperfections.

    The friend with the 240SX would not happen to be named Mike would he?

    Nope his name is Paul. He doesnt visit IA much.

    We were talking about the different types of paints and this came up. I think he was more interested in a deep shine than saving a few bucks. I guess base/clear is the way to go.

    Yea its definitely enamel. I guess I was thinking oil pastel vs watercolors when I made the thread
