Talking BMW 325is ITR race build

Well the build begins on my E36 325is Pro-IT car. For a lot people on here, racing is something they want to get into. Well I figured I would make a thread to show just what it takes to build a road race car from start to finish and everything else you will need.

As some of you know, I picked the car up from San Francisco and drove it back. After getting the car back, it wasnt but a week and stuff started coming out. My plans are to build the car to the Improved Touring rules for ITR. My plans are to have the car ready for Santa Run 09 at little talladega.

I'll start out with what the car looked like when the previous owner had it both new and when I picked it up.

    getting gutted...

The way she looked when i got her...

So far what is on the car...

    now onto the build

    DAY 1- Oct. 13, 2008

So last night Brad (Chummy) and I started taking out the interior. We are taking out the heater core, A/C controls, Radio, speakers, and pretty much anything else that doesn't have to be there.

Sorry for the bad pictures. From last night...

Having a little fun pulling the old stickers off

Pretty surprised at how far we got last night. Looks like its got a long way to go until its finished but if we continue to move at this pace it should be done before December 7th

    DAY 2- Oct. 14, 2008

Well I got up early this morning and went to take some better pictures of the car. I had to move it over last night for some reason? I'll post more tomorrow after we get more done.

This is what it looks like from last night....

All the interior parts from last night that were taken out

So Brad and I continued to work on the car last night. The heater core is finally out of the car. We also pulled a bunch of random stuff out of the car.

    The pile continues to grow....

    heater core...woohoo!

    the interior now

the hole from the heater core. I will be making a block off plate to cover the hole.

random parts that will get weighed then put in the trash

haha. Yeah, it was a real mess. Everything should get pulled out tonight and tomorrow and then we can start putting stuff back in. Then she will get sent off to get the cage finished.

Cool man, I'm feeling that recaro.

I have a bunch of those UUC parts you have and I absolutely love them.

Makes the clutch feel so linear.

the min. weight for the car is 2765 lbs. with driver. I would guess that the weight of the car is 2600 or so now. but the front half of the cage will make up for most of that.

    DAY 3 Oct. 16, 2008

So last night Chummy and I worked on getting the wires ready to pull out. we went ahead and pulled the fuses out and pulled the wires from the fuse box. We also finished cutting the block off plate out and will be putting it on Friday night.

    Nothing really looks different.

I'm sure you know this and just typed wrong but, don't weigh the parts before you put them in the trash, just put what parts you can in a trash bag and weight the bag.

looks like a ton of fun. but hey, if your not wanting any interior peices you can always use LEAD. get big chunks of lead, and shave off the weight you dont need. drill them into the floor board and it will make you weigh what you need to and as long as you distribute them properly it wont throw your weight off.
