    Question '68 Ford Pickup

My brother has a 68 Ford pickup, fully built 302 out of a police interceptor crown vic. Not very sure about his build, but he is having major problem getting started from a stop. I do know its a 3 on the tree, all motor, aggressive cam, and 4.11 gears in a 9". Anyone have any ideas other than maybe the clutch isn't big enough for it......and would it be better to have it dyno'd to see how much power it has if we have to change the clutch?

Well when he starts from a stop he says he pretty much has to redline it to move at all or it stalls out, with 4.11 gears and a built motor you figure he'd burn the tires off doing that. I told him my answer would be a bigger clutch. But figured I ask around.

Rear main could be leaking oil onto the clutch maybe? Or maybe the clutch linkage is binding somewhere and not letting it engage all the way. I know a lot of the parts on the clutch linkage use press-fit parts that come loose.

My dad has pretty much the same setup in his '81 F-150... 5.0, 3 on the tree, 9" rear (but with 3.20 or 3.50 gears... I forget which) and it will **** and git.

I know it should get it , but the clutch is fine other than starting off, @ speed it shifts good

Sounds like maybe the engine is having a running problem. Might want to check the base timing, or something along those lines.
