That doesn't always work. If there are hot spots, the bit will just chatter over them. And, a brake lathe will leave a directional finish.
Its not the best way but its the next best thing if your broke and cant afford to pay to have it done. Our trans tech did his that way and used a grinder to knock the hot spots down till they were gone. It worked pretty good for what it cost him lol
