True for state law. The only law I can think of is FMVSS 108 dealing with the CHMSL...and that is Federal Law. But, people drive Skylines and break Federal Law all the time. I wouldn't worry about getting a ticket for no CHMSL, unless that ticket involved someone rear-ending you. Then instead of getting a new car, your insurance might buy the other guy a new one. Also all cars made after 1985 were required to have one, so there really isn't a way to order a car after 1985 with the 3rd brake light as an "option"
