i was told that if your CEL is on, then your vtec will not work. which is kind of convincing to me, since mine is on and vtec isnt working. but the light has been on since i've owned the car. is this true??

I don't think that's true. Had a knock sensor that broke off, and it threw a cel, still had vtec. If it's a cel dealing with your vtec Solenoid, oil pressure switch, or vss then i can see why it's not working. Since it's throwing o2, i would get it fix.
lol check your oil level!!
the 02 sensor deal was with my friend's car.not mine. but the oil is full.just changed it yesterday. and it might be the vss.because it was originally an auto car, and i think it still has the auto ecu in it. but the speedo and all works. so im not sure.
if its a manual car and your running a auto ecu the CEL is for a solenoid on the transmission. Unless theres mult. CEL your vtec will work with the auto ecu.
