Default Car donation is a good idea?

I am thinking of donating my used car.

Do you think it's a good idea or bad?

its a tax write off, have the car appraised and be sure to get a tax ticket from the organization you donate it to, other than that i dont see any advantages to it other than feeling fuzzy inside

well honestly im in a position where a tax write off would do me absolutely no good, so id sell it. unless the tax write off could really benefit you or you would just really feel extremely good and happy about donating it then id sell it. if its about a donation to the cause try selling the car privately then making a donation.

yeah thats about all donating a car is good for, tax write offs. if it's not a substantial amount, which I'm guessing it's not because you're trying to give it away basically, I would just try parting it out or sellin g locally for a little cash. depending on the type of car and condition of most of the parts you can still make an easy 1,500 or more. sell the shell, the motor, the seats, everything has a price to someone.

Default Car donation is a good idea?

I've done this four times and was satisfied each time. I donated mine to specific charities and was happy to see that charity benefit. The last time I donated a car, it ended up getting auctioned on Car Donation New York and I followed the auction. The final price was higher than book value, so I printed that page out and used the auction price as the basis for my deduction on my tax return. The sale price was about $500 higher than book value, so it worked out well.

Thumbs up good idea to donate a car to charity

I was thinking the other day while I was doing my taxes that the choice of car donation is not just a great idea for a tax write off but will also make you feel great for helping people in need. I've been driving an old car for years and after checking the resell/trade value of it, I will barely get any money for it. I might as well buy a new car without any trade-in and make a car donation with my old car. Not only do you get to write off the charitable donation when it come time to do your taxes, but you will also know that your old car is being used for a good cause or either the proceeds of your old car's sale will go to deserving charities. I know that I will feel better with the knowledge that the car I've been driving for all these years will still be helpful for others.

Hey if thats what you wanna do then good ahead! Me personally, I wouldn't... I have a buddy that works at the shop at Goodwill where they fix and auction cars off... They get donated cars and fix minor problems then make pretty decent money off them.

“As an experienced non-profit professional, I know that raising money to provide essential services to people in need is a constant challenge. Please be aware that billions of dollars are going to charities every year from property donations and there is no reason why some of that money shouldn’t be going to your non-profit. One of the best fund raising ideas that you can put into practice is to have a well run property donation program. ------------------------------------------------------------------
