pointless comment y go thru the hard way to split it if hes replacing them. if he was going to do an axle and needed to keep them i would have told a different way to keep the ends intact.Originally Posted by green91
Here's a guide that might be better for you to read.
Tip: It's a good idea to replace both tie rod ends if funds permit.
1. Pull wheel off
2. Break the adjusting nut loose with a wrench(doing this first will save you some hassle trying to do it with the joint removed)
3. Remove carter key and nut from joint
4. Since you're replacing them, go a head and use a hammer fork and hammer between the boot and the spindle till it pops off.
5. It's a good idea to spray your inner tie rod ends with lubricant to make the outer spin off easy.
6. Count the number of twists it takes to remove the outer tie rod end( this will get it as close to the original alignment as possible)
7. Reverse procedure but leave the adjusting nut loose if you're taking it straight to the alignment shop(makes their job easier)
8. Oh and don't forget to grease the joint and torque your lug nuts
pickle fork isnt the easiest way to go ever. i highly recommend everyone NOT ever even buy one!
