Default LS Crank On GSR Block...?

Hey IA-ers lemme know if anyone has done this before. Im planning on building a poor mans type r and i was wondering if its possible to use a LS Crank instead of the GSR Crank........Since i know with the build dup of a ls/vtec, you get way better low and mid to high rpm powerband.....!

thank you...but i was really trying to hear it out from someone on IA or someone who might had done it before.......and will it be as good as a ls/vtec..or is it going to be slightly different..in powerbands..?

To be honest. It is not worth the effort as the gains are minimal at best. Not to say that it won't be different. But, it will easier to go with either a LSV, GSR, or B20V setup.

One think i was thinking instead of buying a ls/vtec kit, and tapping the block and head, and using dull pins. i thought doing a gsr block by using a ls crank would pretty much be an easier and much more realible setup than doing a Ls/V.....with the ls crank working with the gsr block, im guessing ill have more tq and power on all rpm band.....but then im just posting this to get better answers and to see if anyone has done it before in GEORGIA

With the LS Crank in the GSR block. You will have to use LS rods, bearings, and the crank. Also, you will have to have crank machined down to utilize the oil squirters, otherwise they will have to be blocked off.

I looked into this and realized it was not worth the money to build it. But whatever floats your boat.

The LSV/B20V is not a hard setup to build. If you build it correctly, it can a good setup with decent power. I am currently running a LSV setup. Hence the reason why I recommend it.

true...but its going to be less money doing the the gsr block with ls crank......how i see it i perfer having a motor that is meant to be ran with vtec......but have the dispalcement/tq/powerband of a ls/vtec....!

Shit, if you already have the GSR block just do it. If your using forged internals take out the oil squirters and plug them. Your essentially making a GSR an LS...you can get an LS block for way cheaper. OEM Ls rods are garbage dont use those. If you do decide on that setup get some Ls Eagle rods, ACL Ls bearings, Ls crank(micropolished would be nice), and some LS Hi compression CP pistons and rings...or whatever pistons you perfer.

thing is...i want to know, will it be the same as a ls/vtec.....read some thread on HT saying it wont be as good as a ls/vtec...but in my opinion i think it should be the same, only difference is, there wouldnt be no oil lines or head tapping.

GSR block with Ls crank, Ls rods, Ls pistons, and Ls Bearings will be the same as the Ls/vtec just no oil lines. Your basically building the GSR block to Ls specs.

    Ls Stroke: 89mm
    GSR Stroke: 87.2mm

kew kew...im looking forward to it.....better tq gains then an gsr crank itself, and muc more reliable then a ls/vtec in long runs how i see it....lol..i have seen ls/vtec motors run really good when first built, and give it 1 or 2 years later, it starts to sound funnie......!
