Default A couple driveability questions.... no P.S. and detonation??

1st question is to those of yall who have experience w/a car that has no power steering.
I'm having a bit of a problem with my car trying to get traction(i think..) whenever i come out of a turn/corner and i give my car any kind of power more than 25% throttle. Its more like the steering wheel and entire front end of the car vibrates/shakes/rocks VIOLENTLY when im under power and the wheel is turned and im at speed. Is that something i should worry about or is it just my arms being too weak to handle the horsepower going through the steering wheel?

2nd question is, whenever im at WOT, and my rpms start to near 6k - redline, i can start to hear my car quietly backfiring maybe 3 or 4 times before i shift. I'm not sure if its detonation or what?? Should i use better gas, or is this another sign of my engine needing to be rebuilt?

yes the first problem is most likely Axle not power steering. my friend has a Hatch Without PS and It doesn't Shake/Rock Violently like you describe. if it doesn't shake like that going on a straight line then its most likely your axle like Joshuase said. Its giving you a sign that its bout to break/Pop. You should take a look at it by Turning your wheel all the way and looking at the boot. if its torn and grease is leaking out change that one. If you can't find one thats broken/ try shaking the axle. its supposed to be stable so if it moves its not good.

2nd problem cant really tell by words. probably need to listen to it. and i thought the redline for DA b18 was 7k? but yeah if its detonation try using premium. i really dont know what to say on this one. hope you figure it all out.

Well, i can definately believe that my first problem is definately the axle/wheel-bearing/hub, because when i first got the car, the entire front-left assembly basically fell off the car while i was driving because the previous owner liked to be a DIY mechanic, but was really a danger to the car.... So, i replaced the axle and wheel hub assembly, but i got all the parts from the junkyard just so the car would run again. So, the next step in that case, is to get all new axles, etc....

and the 2nd problem, is my dizzy. Its DEFINATELY on its way out. Since the car had a small flame up under the hood, a few of the dizzy wires got slightly burned, but none to the point of exposing the actual wire. Only the insulators got fried, but still, i can tell its on its way out, because yesterday, it was randomly stalling in the middle of the road and would barely idle. What i did, was i moved around/played with some of the wires on the dizzy, and the car was idling and starting up fine, and no more backfire. So...... All in all, it looks like i need to replace my left front axle/hub assy. for a brand new one, and get a new distributor setup, wires, cap, ignition coil, ignitor, rotor, etc. etc. etc. to get rid of all my problems.

    Thanks IA!!!

You need another car, or just save up for a swap.
