    Default Magnaflow Resonator

here is my scenario. i'm wanting to redo my entire exhaust system on my maxima. i looked at the megan catback...very nice candidate, but have found out via max.org that it has a loud tone. i'm trying to maintain the same oem tone but w/ noticeable gains. so i figured i'll keep my oem muffler, get some more tips to enhance the looks of it and do 2.5 custom piping to the oem muffler.

what i want to find is a long resonator that i can use on my maxima that will maintain my mild sounding maxima. i dont mind a little growl, but i have heard maximas that sound like riced out civics and i'm not going through that route. anyone that TRULY knows me knows i like high end quality for unbeatable prices. hence is why i have decided this is my best route.

so can anyone direct me to where to find a nice size magnaflow resonator/exhaust (2.5" diameter) that i can place on my maxima that will leave me quiet..and possibly a toned growl. i know a few of u civic/integra owners have to have a magnaflow on one of your cars

I would try summit... Obviously that is too far for you to drive, but SummitRacing.com carries magnaflow (anything else that you might be looking for) and they are decently priced...

what kind of gains are you looking for?..... Big ones ??? I think that even after you get the larger exhaust, you stock muffler is going to be a huge restriction.

I say stick to your plan but Get a quality muffler that has good sound dampening qualities AND better flow than stock.

like a magnaflow universal or something.

with a huge resonator it won't be that loud with an aftermarket muffler. plus what kind of gains could you possibly want from exhaust?

our exhaust, according to max.org are able to support HP up to 250hp..i believe thats teh 5.5 gen mufler, i have the 5th gen muffler, i'm sure its able to support the same or maybe a lil less. all other mufflers that i see dont have that stock look. the only one i've seen i've been able to find is the megan catback, and i've heard..'rice' stories about its sound which is why i dont want it.

i wana retain the same basic sound, as far as gains..i'm not sure i just want something that will open up my bottom end (i think) basically...cuz i have a lot of dead spots...few in my second, but mostly in 3rd and 4th gears the car is real sluggish.

modify the megan exhaust with the larger resonator it will quiet it down and be less restrictive, your muffler can "support" 250 hp but in helping to achieve that goal i would highly doubt.....

i'm not going for the full 250hp..i think by going that route i'd have to do some cams and what not. i'm just doing y-pipe and custom exhaust..maybe headers too..

the megan exhaust is 320+ shipping...i dont think i want to customize a exhaust system that expensive...feel what i'm saying?

that makes sense. it just seemed to me to be the most bang for your buck without sounding too "ricey" or spending too much $ your idea should net some gains but mandrel > crush and freeflowing mufflers > restrictive stock, i have been in your position before with multiple exhausts for my integra. in the end i wound up with an exhaust that sounds great but is waaay too much $$ lol.

lol. yea thats why i'm doing research. i mean i've found out that my oem muffler is fine, and heard the megan sounds ricey..so i'm like ill stick it out w/ my oem muffler, stick some classy tips on it and do 2.5" piping to it..just have to find the combo i want.

due to this thread i see two different brands of resonators i want to try...and i'm not sure..i know vibrant makes good stuff and so does magnaflow..i just need help on making final decision.

deep tone, quiet tone, with decent power increase through out entire power band..is that too much to ask for lol

Mine kinda sounds kinda stock until i get on it, i cant even tell its there sometimes.lol.

so i dont need that 'overly big sized' resonator i can go w/ the bottle design and it will still remain quiet? btw i'm not changing my muffler out

when i had my DC2 that was my choice...either vibrant or the apex noir system
