    for a first bike?

i'm not looking for the fastest baddest thing out there....
    and i've never ridden before...

i'm looking for an older used bike... something in the 2k mark..
i'm not certain i'll even get a bike.. BUT i want one pretty bad.. and the possibility has come up so...

    any suggestions?

Depends on what you want: cruiser or sport. I don't ride, but a friend of mine started out on a used cbr600 f3 and said it was an awesome starter bike.

EX500 would make an excellent first bike and would not bust your budget. Dont forget to buy some gear. Decent helmet (150-300) gloves (40-100) Jacket (100-200) Ridinf boots (100-200)

For $2000 your choices are going to be limited. You'll be able to afford an early-to-mid 90's GS500, EX250 (kawasaki ninja), EX500.

I would avoid FZRs (never seen an old one that didn't have a TON of mechanical issues), but you might get really lucky and find a beat up SV650 that someone is looking to get rid of, lol

I've had good experiences with the 400s and 600s - but older bikes usually need a little work when you initially get them.

once i understood the concept of turning... it all became a bit easier...

i still only ride around the neighborhood though...

and as of friday i fixed all the weird idling problems... and now it really is so much easier to ride...

i def would not say i've got it figured out though...

No, I am saying that you know a lot LESS about riding than you think you do.

I'm not trying to disrespect you. I am just telling you the truth (because you don't seem to realize it).

Even ignoring the track and concentrating on (legal) street riding... there is an entire art and science to riding proficiently (indeed, there are many books on the subject).

There is nothing I can tell you on a forum that will explain this concept to you well enough to make you understand.

Take a 250 or 500 bike around some really, really curvy roads one day and then take your 600cc bike around the same route. That will give you an inkling of what a 600cc sport bike is able to do in capable, learned hands... and how much you suck at riding on your 600cc sportbike.

I've been riding 3 yrs (10,000+ miles a year) and I would still consider my skills those of a beginner, or casual rider.... so you can understand why I find your statement that you "figured it out" in 10 min to be freakin ridiculous.

Its like what they say: You never know how ignorant you are until you learn something.

i can understand what your saying...i didnt really say i "figured it out" like that..n i didnt claim i knew all that much like ur saying at first...n styll dnt

im not claimin to be a expert on a ridin or nothing...i had buddies give me there opinions on what to get at first, n due to my size and stuff i guess, a few recommended a 600 ova a 250, but some did say a 250...

    o yea...it wasnt literally 10 mins btw..lol...just a figure of speech...

First bike I owned was a zx750. Wayyy to big for me. But I learned slowly in stages and finally got used to it. I am not expert but I could ride it pretty well for only riding a year.

And about to buy myself a newer GSXR 600. Like an 06 or an 07.
