    Question Mini-me Swap questions?

Ok, im new to the honda side.

I just recently purchased my first honda (91 dx hatch). The car already has a swap with a d16a6 OBD0 (91 crx Si). There is nothing wrong with the motor thats in it, its just high milage (160k+). So recently i found a good deal on a d16z6 full swap out of a 92-95 civic ex. The guy will let me take out everything thats necessery for the swap (OBD1 ecu(p28), the whole wiring, tranny, manifold, fuel rail etc...)

    So my question now is?
Will I need any additional parts to complete the swap? Im just trying to get some more info before I buy.

    Thanks in advance

how much is that whole setup? Compare that price with a full B series swap's price. B series is where you want to go. Swapping a D for another D isnt much of an improvement.

Little more power out of the z6. Plus the speedo cable in my tranny is broken off and its inpossible to take it out, someone did a crappy wiring job when they did the swap and it just looks like hell when I open the hood. To get some parts fixed on my hatch I will spend around like $200-$250. Why not get a little more powerfull swap for about the same amount of money + its low milage compared to mine

some things you should know (you didnt mention):
you'll have to swap the whole hydraulic system for the clutch, or get a conversion kit (lever assembly in place of the slave cylinder), not sure if they make one for d-series, dont see why not, they make it for Bs (maybe it interchanges?) and im almost positive the transmission mount is different too.

the speedometer for the S20 trans (Z6 manual transmission) is electric, not cable. your cluster wont work with it.

    youre going to need
    instrument cluster,
    clutch pedal and bracket,
    clutch master cylinder,
    clutch hydraulics,
    the whole longblock,
all the wiring, might as well get everything (fuse box and all)
    all the mounts,
    the ECU/ECM

    i think thats all.

use the a6 tranny unless you are converting to obd1, cause the z6 is hydro, and not cable

I dont wanna use my tranny cuz of the speedo cable being broken inside and its inpossible to get it out.

use your si tranny or trade the z6 trans. for a working si(i would of traded had i not sold it a couple weeks back) and get the conversion harness from obd0 to obd 1...

    use z6 ecu,dizzy and motor...

Remove the entire speed sensor where the cable slides into the trans and you should be able to get the cable out with it out of the car.

Use the cable SI trans to make it easy on yourself. You will need to use the cable speedo in the trans anyway unless u wanna convert clusters etc for electronic vss.

the d16z6 will bolt in very easily with the a6 cable trans, you will need to modify the driver side timing cover and use the ORIGINAL a6 engine mount on that side. the other 3 mounts are on the transmission. use the stock SI harness on the d16z6.

is that a portion of the actual cable VSS thats broken off? It can still be removed but you'll have the disassemble the trans.

The transmission actually has a piece like this that bolts on and is driven by the differential, and your cable actually slides into this piece.

im saying you should be able to unbolt that and slide it out and then either replace it or get the cable out of that.

Not a prob, if you cant get the cable out of that piece then you should probably just find another one, but its not worth replacing your entire trans over.

BTW that piece has like 1 bolt holding it in, it should be easy to take out in the car.

i think that the VSS is actually broken off into your trans.. it will require trans disassembly to get it out and it may not even come out, have you ever taken a trans apart before?

From that pic it looks like the vss shaft is broken off inside the trans case. Youve gotta pull the main/countershaft, shift forks and diff out to even access it, so its a pretty heavy job but not to bad if youve got trans experience.. if the shaft is seized into the case though its probably gonna be hell getting it out
