That what it means when the check engine light is flashing. You already did the most obvious troubleshooting. It honestly sound like a piston ring or something. Don't quote me but that just my 2 cents could be wrong.

CEL can mean MULTIPLE things not just one particular problem. A Piston ring isnt going to set a CEL. A piston ring collapse will produce smoke out the tail pipe.Originally Posted by twinj

This is true. and lets not overlook the fact it ran perfect for 400 miles , and the misfire is not like the engine stumbling or anything.
You are right muiltiple of things. To determine whether a rings is collapse or not isnt smoke out the tail pipe either.

Just comp test then work from there.
