Default b16 trans vs. ls trans.

hey guys, got a quick question, the idiot who bought my transmission is saying that its an ls when its a b16, when I had it in my car it would sit at roughly 4k doing 70mph in 5th gear. please explain to me how this could be an ls trans. I talked to the guy I got it from and he said he is positive that its a b16.

but to tell the truth between the too which is what.....only how you can tell is take it apart an count the teeth....or drive it.... if your doing 70mph an your at over 4500 rpm then your a b16 , but if your at 2800 then your a ls ....but 100% you would have to take it apart....tell him it is a B16 tranny an have a good day an dont worry about it you got your money right?

i JUST got off the phone with him he says his lawyer will call me in the morning LOLOL, I asked him what he sat at doing 70 and he said 4k, he said his gsr trans sits at 5k at 70 so the b16 should do the same except sit even higher...I told him "you are a ****ing idiot if you think its an ls transmission" then thats when he brought up about his lawyer and then i hung up

ok just thought of something, i had a full rebuild put in, I told him it was a b16 out of like a 1998 civic and he ordered the parts to rebuild it based off of that so there is no way its an ls

the easy what to solve this is to get the code off the tranny and look it up and print it and give it to the dude

doesnt matter about the code dude....a gsr an ls can have the same y80 / s80 code ..to tell the truth you would have to tear it apart an count the teeth that is the only how you can tell.....unless you have a ls in your car then switch to b16 then you could tell how high the rpms are

wow..anyone with any experience in bseries transmission can tell you thats a b16 trans. 80 in 5th should get him around 44-4500rpms for a ys1 and around 4000 for a gsr..ls is probably closer to 3500 at that same speed

thats what I told him, he says he has used every type of b-series transmission and that it should be at 5k at 70! in fifth gear. I would be pissed if my rpms were at that high, no honda transmission will do that

^^^^ they said it right. I just hit 80 this morning in my gsr. closer to 4k then 5k. thats why everyone wants an ls 5th gear in their gsr, because it runs at such a lower rpm.

Tell him to play with the settings on this Gear Ratio site and he should get an idea of how a real LS tranny would feel as certain RPM/MPH.

Does sound like it's a B16 tranny to me though.
