1964 GTO motor
got offered a 64 rebuilt gto motor with roughly 30 hours on it, so im going to pick it up later today, tried to figure out the value of it with no luck. specs are like 325hp and 428tq. any other body style besides 64 can it fit in? any info at all would be apreciated

do you know what size engine it is? They make kits to fit GM engines into damn near anything. If they dont make it, you can probably get someone to make it fit.
im not sure...I know it came in a 64 origionally and all they did in 65 and 66 was upgrade the cams and put in stiffer springs so I know it will fit those...I just don't know much about domestics, and those yr shells sell for crazy high prices in horrible condition
talked to the guy I work with and he said a 66 had a 389 and stated above they were the same as 64 so that would be my guess...

ok thanks...any idea of value? its clean rebuilt/painted nothing missing...not sure if trans comes with it...
I mean obviously depends on who buys it and how much they are willing to pay with it. I will talk to a friend of mine. He has a 1973 GTO 400 so I will ask him. He is a big GTO lover...

I just read this from a motortrend write up about GTO's "Remember that all Pontiac V-8s have the same engine-mount points, regardless of their displacement." so I guess that will be the answer to the question about body styles it'll go in.

389 was standard in 64 with a 4bbl, 325hp, with an optional 389 w/ three 2bbls and 350hp iirc

The 389 you are talking about is only worth something to a person looking for an original resto.
They are kinda the bastard child of the Pontiac family of engines, they are big, heavy, unreliable and don't make good power. There are almost no aftermarket performance parts for cheap so it is a tough piece to get rid of.
You can get junkyard 350 chevys for $250, and build them for another $500 and have 425HP easy, that is why most folks dump the old Pontiacs and install newer Pontiac 400's or Chevy 350's.
Don't mean to be a downer, build it up and get it running, someone will buy it but prolly in the $500 range, unless it is a rare casting for a classis car.

yeah, can't complain about that. Some ppl may want that motor if they are doin a restoration. it's all about finding the right buyer...

GTOForums.com I dunno much about them though. My co-worker is 50 something. he just remembers them when he was young. ha... I'll ask my buddy though that has the 73 and see if he knows anyone looking for one though. Lemme know if you find out if the tranny comes with it or not so I can let him know.

Newer 400's? as in the one put in the 68 GTOs? If so those run nothing like the 389 3 2 bbl
wtf is 3 2 bbl? speak import language for me lol. but yea just got back from picking it up and it had a quadrajet carburater(sp?) and from what my buddy tells me is worth quite a bit
also no trans came with it, just an engine stand
i have to be honest, i know a good bit of the lingo, b/c of my dads impala, but im not sure if a quadrajet is actually worth more than any other 4bbl...i know its a selling point, if you will, when he tells people about the impala, making sure to include that it has the powerglide, quadrajet 4bbl, and ramhorn exhaust

so its a fresh motor? put it in the atlanta advertiser it will sell fast im sure. the triple 2 barrel carbs increase the value to resto freaks it maybe looked at as junk to hot rodders and drag/power freaks but those stock specs are pretty darn good. your very lucky if i had it i would sit on it i would put good oil in it and prep it for a long sleep like i use to do to my oldsmobile 455's . if you dont want it i will give you 100.00 for it..lol no really i would love to put it in my trans am

a quadrajet is a single 4bbl carb, it has 2 barrels that are small and for fuel economy and emissions, and 2 large barrels for when you put your foot in it

haha, yea thats what I thought too...a junker motor that has 435tq?? I will be looking for a shell to put it in until it sells, if I find one I'll swap it in, if not then o well...back to imports lol. but yea fresh motor FULLY rebuilt I was told...the motor was passed around to a couple people in the church and I was told one of them have the reciepts so i may pursue that to up the value. Took off the valve covers and it doesn't look new but then again it has been sitting in a garage for 3 years or more
btw carb motors are a mother ****** to tune.

Thats what got me started into cars, cuz i was constantly under the hood tryin to get it tuned right. in the end, I got it tuned up better than the family mechanic did.
Well turns out its a 1965 lemans motor...had some people look it up and found it out, so now I have no idea of what its worth...

ha^ yea i got 2 calls today since i put it on craigslist, I put it up for 800 and the guy said he is still intrested in it since he has a lemans as well so we will see what he offers and ill base the price around that
try YearOne, some1 up there might need one or know of some1 that needs one.
