The 389 you are talking about is only worth something to a person looking for an original resto.
They are kinda the bastard child of the Pontiac family of engines, they are big, heavy, unreliable and don't make good power. There are almost no aftermarket performance parts for cheap so it is a tough piece to get rid of.
You can get junkyard 350 chevys for $250, and build them for another $500 and have 425HP easy, that is why most folks dump the old Pontiacs and install newer Pontiac 400's or Chevy 350's.
Don't mean to be a downer, build it up and get it running, someone will buy it but prolly in the $500 range, unless it is a rare casting for a classis car.
