Default 2000+ Celica GTS Tranny Reviews

Well I heard Alot of people saying that the toyota celica Gts tranny is really hard to get use to? There isn't much room between gears and quite often people get in the wrong gear due to this. I was wondering If this is an issue for those of you who owns one or driven one.

I have a 2000 gts, and it does have pretty narrow shift gates. It took some getting used to, but I've never had any problems.

well if you are looking for a 2000 or 2001 (has the best performance and capability), they have shorter gates and the shifting is very close. BUT in 2002 they did recall and changed the gates and I think 3rd and 1st were spread further apart. Any celica 2002 and up have that new shift gate. I have 2000 GTS with a short shifter, brass bushings, and solid shifter base bushings. I had to learn in my car, so it was a rough experience. The shifting is notchy, yet smooth. Each gear has its own feel so when you start getting in the groove you won't mis shift because you'll know right off the bat which gear your in by the feel. Then again, this may just be me, There are decent of cases where people have mishifted from 2nd to 1st and blown their engines.

    FYI
I believe the 2002 models have the lowest rev limiter and highest lift engagement.

yea, 2000, 2001, 2004, and 2005 are the fastest...maybe 2003 also, not sure. I know the 2002 got a lower rev limit which keeps you from landing in "lift" in some of your shifts. the others have the regular rev limit, BUT 04 and 05 have an electronically controlled throttle body "drive by wire" which keeps you from using and after market ECU like the apex'i powerFC. What you CAN do is buy an 02 and swap out an 00 ECU and knock sensor.
