    Default What is considered to be fast?

    Just curious, what people consider fast. Is it the 1/4 time or what it runs 0-60? or what?
    I have been told that a B18 civic will run about a 15 on the 1/4 mile. That was with a gutted car, no cats, full exhaust, B18 (obviously), headers and an intake. This was a personal friend of mine.

    Now, I have a 5.3 Sierra that is no longer stock from my doing. Most of guys with the same set up are running mid 13s apparently. Now this a full size, 4wd truck. Ive got cold air, flowmaster exhaust (like every other truck you see haha) its custom street tuned on EFI Live software and it has the Vette Servos in it.
    The truck is significantly faster than what it was stock, and most of the guys Ive showed have been more than impressed for a truck this big.

    So if I did happen to run a 13 or very low 14... Would this be impressive or just average?

    stock f-250's run low 14's

    loe 13's or high 12's are fast in a truck IMO

    espically if it;s 4x4

    maybe turbo diesel f-250's...not gas ones. the new tundras run high 13's seen it first hand..thats movin for a truck that big.....but in the grand scheme of things 12's are a good starting point to be competative in racing...these days you are not doing **** unless you are 11's or faster 1/4 mile wise. everyone has a different opinion of what fast is....i dont give a **** how fast your car runs a road course.....that does tell me ****....but if it traps 120mph or better in the 1/4.....you probabloy got a pretty damn quick vehicle no matter where you put it.

    it would be considered quick, not fast. IMHO, for anything with a V8, fast starts at 12's. I have a second gen Trans Am that I have done a lot of work to. I didn't consider it as "fast" until it would out run a Z06 Vette from 0-140. Thats fast.

    im not sure about your area but 4 bangers are running 12's in our area....anything slower with 4 pistons and you are not doing it right...if you got a v8 and it runs 12's you need to go home and re-think what you are doing!

    for the average joe though a 12-13 second car is more than fast enough for what the avg joe wants to do.....infact that may be too much to the avg person. my dad thought my car was fast when it ran low 15's. and he still thinks stock mustangs are fast

    I meant 12 sec was fast for an average person, especially if its a truck. I have some experience with domestic cars. A few years back I built a 2nd gen Trans Am. I started with a mild build (which ran 12's), and then I caught the power bug and dropped some money into it. The one time I ran my F body at the track since the last engine build, I ran 10.62 @ 127 mph on 10.5 nitto nt555r street slicks. I'm sure I could get much more out of it with a 4 link and some real slicks, but I'm afraid the numbers matching pontiac big block engine won't handle a super hard launch like that. It's not worth the risk of blowing the engine. The engine was conservatively built with edelbrock wide port high flow heads, a comp cams roller cam, 1.6:1 roller rockers, edelbrock single plane IM, Barry Grant 1030 carb (holly 4500 platform), .20 over 10:1 forged pistons, eagle rods and crank, long tube hooker headers with 3.5" collector, and dual 3.5" exhaust. At around 450Ci, the power is somewhere around 600whp on 93 octane. I copied the build of a guy who put down 700whp with the same setup. I don't have my timimg advanced nearly as far as he did, so I'm probably making about 10% less. It gets about 4 mpg, so It doesn't get driven much. Now that I think about it, I cant remember the last time if left the garage. Thats the problem with cars like that. It cost too much to drive them from day to day.

    In my area there aren't many 4cyl cars that run 12's that I know of. I don't know many of the kids around here, so I don't really know what's out there. There's a few modded evo's, but no N/A 4 cylinder cars that run anywhere close to 12 sec.

    if you hit somewhere in the 13's thats fast IMO because most cars that are brought to the track are daily driven, but for race or competition, id say 11's or better

    a truck that weighs in at 6000+ pounds running a 13 is quick. many boosted hondas dont run 13s. thats why you have to gut the damn cars. when your car has to be highly modded and gutted and weight 2200lbs to run high 13s. im not impressed. i am about to get and f 250 and i have a mildly built gsr running about 260 off 7 lbs. it had a boost leak and i have to get it retunned

    wow...i guess alot of turbo honda guys suck at life...i ran low 12's with a stock gsr and a peakboost kit on 10 psi in afull interior 4 door civic with a sub and amp and tools in the trunk. it weighed 2670 with me in it. if you cant run 12's these days you are not trying hard enough.

    Anything 14 secs or below for the regular joe is fast. Camry's and accords are now 270 Hp (crank) + .. easy high 14 sec cars.

    For an enthusiast it really depends what you working with...

    eactly each motor has its bracket...

    I.E. in my opinion..

    4cyl FWD - 13 flat or faster your haulin ass!
    4cyl AWD - 12 flat or faster
    6cyl - mid 11's - Pending style of motor, Grand nationals, supras, etc
    8cyl - 11 flat faster street car! :idb:

    and as for the original post, any truck that runs 12's is fast. i wish you great luck in doing it with the addition of your cam but think you'll have to have a power adder(i.e. nos, turbo, or charger)

    I have faith with all of that. Honestly right now, it hauls ass. I have enough torque to bark the tires when it shifts to second and third. If it downshifts, it lights the tires up for a good 50 feet on perfectly dry pavement.
    I am very happy with what it does, but I want to have some more to really kick some ass with the local **** heads lol

    I think running in the 13s is the line as far as quick cars. From there it depends on what platform and how the car is prepped. I tend to look at trap speeds more when comparing cars and not drivers/traction. Trapping 105-110 and up is getting pretty quick.

    hmm....depends....fast for a sunfire would be 15's. fast for a gt mustang would be 12's, fast for an EVO is 11's. Just depends on the car.

    but a good median is about a low 12 sec car. thats pretty fast.

    fast=fast it doesnt matter what type of automobile it is or how much it weighs. fast is a relative term really. what some people consider fast is slow as balls to to others. it really depends on what ur car runs and the type of people that are around u. do u really think john force thinks running 10's is fast? i bet not. but that ricer at the BP with his single cam civic things running 13's is ungodly fast.

    i think 13's are decent. 12's are quick and 11's are fast and i drive a 14 second car lol

    i think thats the best put way so far! hell for me fast would have to be mid 11's, and i am no where near that...so between all my friends i am considered ****ING slow as piss!

    just depends on the vehicle. 12 secs 1/4 mile with a truck is fast to me! i think my car is fast but people that drive evo's and sti's probably dont. it just depends on the car and the person u ask i guess.

    Well again, full size 4x4 truck. I was tired of being stock anyways. But I am not close to done, I wont be doing any forced induction for awhile, the tranny wont take the abuse. But Headers, cams, water injection, gutted cats and some ignition work should get be close to 12s if tuned right.
    Now a 12 second truck is not the most impressive thing ever but, for a daily driver and NA full size, I think its damn quick.

    12's anything in a truck is pretty damn quick. you could always talk to turbo Dave about fast trucks ^_^

    Fast is when you don't have traction until 3rd or 4th gear even with 200 treadwear tires

    New car:
    95 S14 with RB25DET (stock boost)

    Old car:
    Turbo S2000 400hp/285tq on 9:1 comp & 11psi
