Anyone know where I can find a good 4" inlet muffler? I have found "race" mufflers in that size but would prefer a more quiet "street" type.![]()

doubt there be any, your best bet would be to buy a nice street muffler of a different inlet size then make it fit by welding
uhm... if you cut the 2.5" pipe running into the canister off and make the inlet to a 4" the inside baffles are still going to be 2.5" and if you remove those then that will not be a muffler anymore... and the race pipe would be more quiet than that.... you could always run the exhaust through two race mufflers... but unless you have alot of displacement and/or are boosted with a huge ass turbo... the 4 inch muffler is really unnecessary....
judging by his sig, I'm guessing he has some american v8 swapped in there.Originally Posted by SiRed94

say it with me guys. "no back pressure".
a little bit of backpressure is good for NA cars, i don't remember why but i learend that in my automotive classOriginally Posted by s13slider

At 3" there is little to no backpressure. At 4" you're just making extra noise.Originally Posted by s13slider®
You could just run an open DP with a little turndown....as I assume that we're talking about a boosted setup here. Plus, a 4" pipe, even with a muffler, might actually make your car louder than if you had nothing at all. Like, I have a friend who has a wrx with an Ansa exhaust, and it's actually louder than when he's running an open DP. It's like the piping adds some sort of resonance to the tone.
If you're running an NA setup, for the love of God do not run a 4" exhaust. NA motors need some backpressure to run properly. You'll probably lose power and at worst burn a valve.
I say go to midas or something and have them make you a 2.5" straight pipe with a resonator.![]()
"I get worried when it STOPS leaking."
Ditch the exhaust and upgrade to a sewer pipe.

It was straight piped, ended up putting a resonator on it. Can't tell you how many cutting wheels I went through...
i think he is talking about the tip of the muffler.

What do you consider as an "import" muffler? Round? Oval?Originally Posted by StupidBikerBoy
Magnaflow makes 4" mufflers and resonators, you could always cut the outlet side off about 1/4 to 1/2" from the canister and weld on a decent looking tip... http://www.hottexhaust.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=14419 ...but bonestly if it was me i'd put an aftermarket Corvette exhaust on it, might take a little bit of fabrication and creativeness with the bumper but would look and sound great.
