battery keeps dying after cutting car off for awhile

this started happening recently, the car would drive fine, but when you come to a stop the cluster gets dim and sometime the battery light would flash for a moment real quick. after i finish driving, park the car and come back out to start it, theres not enough power and then the battery dies.started the car, and left it to turn and pulled out the (-) off the battery terminal and the car stays on
checked all the fuses, any specific one>
car will crank when jumped start

Needs a New battery an might need a new alternator, most likely it will need Alternator remmeber the pulling of the neg post was a OLD school trick for OLD school cars, now the computer controls,an would keep the car running...charge battery to 12 volts, then crank it up an put a volt meter on it, if it is not near 13.5 -16.volts its bad! REPS please

if its not charging, then check to see if your alternator plug has ground an power, an the power wire single that bolts a 10mm nut has constent power also

volt test the alternator and battery, possibly take both to an autozone or something like that, they have free tests.

Drive to the nearest auto parts store & ask them to test the alternator & battery, it'll narrow it down a little. They'll tell if your alternator isn't putting out enough and/or your battery is bad.

if you test and they say your alternator is good and your battery is good, check your battery terminals

Buy a damn new remanufactured alternator from any local autoparts store and a new battery...and your problems will be solved.

Agreed. Bad alternator wouldn't let the car keep running if the battery was dead, and a working Alternator but bad battery explains why everything works fine while moving at speed but dims when you slow down. Also explains why the car jumps fine but won't start on it's own. You may have a perfectly good battery too and you're experiencing a heavy parasitic battery drain from a short. Might wanna check on whether there's juice flowing from the battery with the car turned off.

You listed that you changed the Alternator. Is the tension on the belt tight enough because if not then the belt slips and it will not charge the battery. Telltale sign is a squeling from the belt. I remember my first car was the same way. The guy tightening my belt did not put enough tension on the belt and it slipped on the Alternator pulley and would not charge the battery.

Clean the battery terminals, check the connectors on the alternator, then have both the alternator and battery tested at Autozone...
