    Default 740i transmission problem

    i have a 1993 740i that wont go into reverse. it didnt make any noise when it decided not to, and doesnt now. all the other gears are fine, just not reverse.

    anybody on here have any advice?

    they only came in automatic.

    lol thanks for the help... ...

    i just dont have the cash to replace a tranny and was wondering if theres any know problems with these that are maybe easy fixes. one place wanted 8g's to put in a new trans...

    Replacing is the only "easy" fix Tearing apart an automatic isn't easy on the wallet either.

    ^^ true. but i was hoping maybe it was just a clogged filter? idk...
    i dont know too much about autos.

    but ive decided to sell the car as-is instead of fixing it.

    I have seen people get away with the valve body. I bought a 93 740 for my wife and the trans was all screwed up. Got a valve body and was good to go. Usually when they don't go in reverse it means they are about toast. Takes twice the line pressure to run reverse. Valve body\filter kit\some BG trick shift and you my have 500 bucks more in it or a fly 740 to ride. I may be able to get a valve body or cheap used trans. hit me up

    Get a new trans or known good used trans...
    1997 M3/4/5
    2004 X4 4.4i
    1987 325iS 24V 6speed
