I have seen people get away with the valve body. I bought a 93 740 for my wife and the trans was all screwed up. Got a valve body and was good to go. Usually when they don't go in reverse it means they are about toast. Takes twice the line pressure to run reverse. Valve body\filter kit\some BG trick shift and you my have 500 bucks more in it or a fly 740 to ride. I may be able to get a valve body or cheap used trans. hit me up
