If all the celicas (especially 6th gen) were rwd with the top model being the alltrac..... then i think toyota would have sold a crap more of them and made a lot more money.

yeah my bro has the only celica model closest to doing that lol celica/supra ftw
i thought bout that couple days ago....if the 6th gen was a RWD,it would be one of the top imports
and maybe id be doing more with mine than just for DD
when will toyota learn that rwd + the cars they already make = huge profits.
no they just need to make awd celicas not even rear. make it a wrc. turbo that ***** with all wheel. would make a killing as long as they kept the price lower than the wrx and the evo. with the same amount of power
Eh, but I would assume that it would cost more? That's just a thought, I don't know if a longer driveshaft (instead of two short ones) and the other stuff would raise the price. If that's true then it may have worked against Toyota; they would have a kick ass car that may have priced some people out; examples being that a V6 Accord Coupe (the generation right before this new one) was expensive enough that if you were looking at cars like that you may just get an Acura. It'd on the same level as buying car with options that make it the price of the higher model; like I wouldn't buy a fully loaded Corolla, I'd get a Camry if there was price overlap.Originally Posted by PsychoSquirl
That was what killed the Supra; who is gonna drop $30-45 grand on a Japanese sports car? For that price you could get a Benz or something that would serve as a status symbol. I know we think a Supra is something to look at twice in traffic, but I’ve even had someone tell me that "that spoiler is really big" when I pointed. Appearance is everything to non-car people, which I guess is why the ricers try so hard.
Even if the price didn't increase, one of the things that Toyota is known for is value and efficiency....wouldn't it get lower MPG? I'm pretty sure that that was one of the big reasons for being FWD so you put the engine sideways etc etc.
There is a really easy solution to all this; we should have received an GT4 model at some point. I know that they would have to do some tinkering with the car, but they could have tried it out and see how it did. I know that is over simplifying the situation but still.
Two final notes:
A) There has to be a reason why we haven't received a lot of cars; Honda, Toyota and Nissan are trying to sell cars and it's my guess that somewhere along the line they realized the opportunity cost of being the cars over and having them on the lot wasn't worth it. See other thread for rationale on that.
B) Psycho, are you an alienated owner or something? lol this is your second coulda shouda woulda thread. Not bashing, just saying.
yah mpg would decrease but not my much, i mean look at the alltracs they had on freeway they get 25-27 mpg versus 30 its not alot. over time it would be alot but for those who like being safer and going faster it would be nice. Also i would pay the extra for awd, and a turbo why not. It wouldnt kill it and definetly didnt kill the supra, it being over priced is what killed it. No one wanted to pay the price for a inline 6 for 40k. It didnt seem worth it.

Long live the alltrac!
Turbo all wheel drive? Like that's new?
I doubt all that would happen. Toyota is making too much money to worry about performance cars. If there was money in it then maybe. The All trac just flat out didn't sell, but the car was made to be able to compete at the FIA WRC level. At the time gas was high (nothing compared to today) and a good performance car at the time that cost more than a 5.0 mustang just didn't get it done. So they never imported the gen 6 GT-four. Not enough money.
i miss my old '85 Celica GT...![]()

Well, if that's the case, the lancer should've stayed the same way being that ever since there's been a celica, there's been a lancer as well. I think the wise decision was to keep building AWD turbo celicas or at least continue to build the turbo corolla hatch w/ awd. Ever since they dropped out of WRC they basicly took their passion for building special cars. I hope the new RWD car is a worthy replacement for toyota's loss of recent passionOriginally Posted by Spektrewing386
K series 626. That's right. It's got a K in it.
