if all celicas were rwd/awd

If all the celicas (especially 6th gen) were rwd with the top model being the alltrac..... then i think toyota would have sold a crap more of them and made a lot more money.

Eh, but I would assume that it would cost more? That's just a thought, I don't know if a longer driveshaft (instead of two short ones) and the other stuff would raise the price. If that's true then it may have worked against Toyota; they would have a kick ass car that may have priced some people out; examples being that a V6 Accord Coupe (the generation right before this new one) was expensive enough that if you were looking at cars like that you may just get an Acura. It'd on the same level as buying car with options that make it the price of the higher model; like I wouldn't buy a fully loaded Corolla, I'd get a Camry if there was price overlap.

That was what killed the Supra; who is gonna drop $30-45 grand on a Japanese sports car? For that price you could get a Benz or something that would serve as a status symbol. I know we think a Supra is something to look at twice in traffic, but I’ve even had someone tell me that "that spoiler is really big" when I pointed. Appearance is everything to non-car people, which I guess is why the ricers try so hard.

Even if the price didn't increase, one of the things that Toyota is known for is value and efficiency....wouldn't it get lower MPG? I'm pretty sure that that was one of the big reasons for being FWD so you put the engine sideways etc etc.

There is a really easy solution to all this; we should have received an GT4 model at some point. I know that they would have to do some tinkering with the car, but they could have tried it out and see how it did. I know that is over simplifying the situation but still.

Two final notes:
A) There has to be a reason why we haven't received a lot of cars; Honda, Toyota and Nissan are trying to sell cars and it's my guess that somewhere along the line they realized the opportunity cost of being the cars over and having them on the lot wasn't worth it. See other thread for rationale on that.

yah mpg would decrease but not my much, i mean look at the alltracs they had on freeway they get 25-27 mpg versus 30 its not alot. over time it would be alot but for those who like being safer and going faster it would be nice. Also i would pay the extra for awd, and a turbo why not. It wouldnt kill it and definetly didnt kill the supra, it being over priced is what killed it. No one wanted to pay the price for a inline 6 for 40k. It didnt seem worth it.
