OBD II readiness

Alright I got a question... I took my car for emissions this week and they said that my OBD is not ready. I haven't reseted the ECU or took the battery out. I just decided to drive it for another 100 miles, then I got it retested again, and it still says that the OBD is not ready.... any ideas on what is happening?

you dont happen to have a obd1 to obd2 conversion harness do you?

go ahead and take the ecu fuse out and put it back in and then try again after 100miles

no i don't, i got a 2000 civic si, running on the OEM ecu...

do you have any mods to the car? have you recently done other work to the car or have any electrical issues/gremlins? do you have to reset your radio presets?

^^^What he said. If not some sort of battery cutoff then maybe something inline on the ECU harness, wouldn't make much sense to run it through the ignition but never know

had the car for a while... did emissions before and it passed...

loose batt. cable? check the terminals or if u jump some 1 off it will do that also worst case ive seen on a saturn drove 1500 miles still not ready new ecu 4 u

Scan it and see what's not ready. Could be your catalyst, evap, o2, etc... atleast you'll be able to pin point what the ecu isn't reading.

recently someone broke into my car and pulled out the radio and cut out all of my gauges... think it got something grounding somewhere?

try just resetting it and drive another 100 miles

any chance one of those was an A/F guage? If so, it may have created a primary o2 sensor malfunction.


Get the codes read, even if there is no CEL. This is where you want to start.

I would also remove all leftover guage wiring.

the ONLY reason an emissions test will fail on readiness is if the ecu's components arent ready. you wont have any codes until it is ready. if all your connections are proper and youve driven over 100+ miles, i'd start switching ecus.

also be sure to get about 30 miles on the highway. some cars are different than others, some take longer some take shorter driving distances.

also if you know anyone that works for a dealership or someone with a good scan tool then you should have them hook it up while driving. It will show what tests arent in ready mode and as you drive it will show which ones are changing to "ready"

a drive cycle could take awhile.
