Question Is a catalytic converter a must to pass emissions?

    95 Civic / kpro / K20a2 / SSR header / resonator (not sure brand I am going with) / Vibrant 3" muffler.

Is a catalytic converter required to pass emissions here in ATL?

Is it true you can go outside the emissions area, get a PO Box, and register the vehicle to that Box??

I would like to pass emissions if possible

    it depends on the shop...

most places usually do not check. I have passed 3 years in a row without a cat, but i'm obd2 so its a little easier w/ ob2 because you dont have to go on the rollers.

It's possible that you can pass without it. Just as long as your nox isn't that high, it should do just fine. But you can always go somewhere to get it pretested first to see if it will pass. If nox is high, throw a cat on it.

    K series 626. That's right. It's got a K in it.

Technically you need a cat because they are supposed to check for it, but some motors run good enough to not need one like brad said. My car also did not have a cat and always passed (no cel)

But yes, if u kno someone that has a physical address outside of the area that u live in (that obviously doesnt have emission laws) u can register your car that way as well. Hell... if u need to, u can use my address and tag ur car in Ohio if need be.

The thing is they are supposed to ask you if you have one or not. This is a question asked by the computer. They usually put yes as the answer. But if they ask and you lie, you will be in trouble. It is like saying is stealing illegal? Yes, of course, but if you do not get caught, you are fine.

i know u already passed for for anyone else that looks. I am an emission inspector..well used to be. will be again soon.

cars typically (pre 96) need a cat to pass emissions. RARELY they will pass w/o one. but that means everything else has to perfect and the standards for each year/make/model vary. '85 Ford F150's have very low standards compared to a '95 Honda.

^^ you can, but your car, being a '94 will still have to be driven on the DYNO. as long as u have all the emissions equipment on ur car, you should be fine.
