    Default Question about Starions

People keep talking about how the starions are always breaking down. I guess they are not ultra reliable...

Anyway I'm curious to know what it is that commonly breaks on these things ?

a majority of the ones in peoples yards have a bad injector, they have a 2 injector set up and the injectors are relatively expensive. but the car is circa 20 years old and any 20 year old car has relaiability issues exp. a turbo car, a primitive turbo car. but, I am loooking for one, my issue is rust free and body in good to excelent shape, I dont care if it runs...
try tristarion.com it is the easiest to sign into but starquest club.com and g54b have a lot of information too. I recently foung project og but that is more a swap related site.

i bought mine last June and Ive driven it everyday since. Except for one day when i broke my Wastegate.*shrug*

    Commonly breaks or malfunctions?

Rust (limited number were produced so alot have rust)
    Injectors
    injector clips
    Dirty gas tanks
    Cracked head (around 3rd cylinder)
    split intercooler pipes
    stock MAS is poor
Power steering gear box is crap(not a rack & pinion setup)
    sloppy torque tubes

I swapped my built motor in about 3 weeks ago and it drives beautifully.

Mine really dosn't leave the garage. People across the street think it is a tool bench.

I found a way around the expensive injector.

Buy a top feed Delphi like the GMs run, and buy an adjustable FPR, like the MSD2222 or Aeromotive( i have this one) then adjust the psi to about 43. you'll also need to create a spacer to go between the injector and mixer housing. i run a 65lb and 95lb injector

my injectors were only like 45 each when i did this

ive DD mine for 2+ yrs.. besides normal maintenance, these cars are just like any other car. if you beat on it.. expect shit to break. and thats what ppl do to these cars... beat on it and not take care of it. i woudlnt trade mine for anything.. the looks i get, even with mine having rust and paint that is shitty i still get the " hey man is that a starion? wow.. i havnt seen one of those since Highschool." and that makes it worth it! not to mention the GOBBBBS of tq it makes!

    Hi

I would go with the FIP system. If you have good factory Injectors it runs about 495.00 . If you need Injectors they have one for 795.00 . It is already made for the car and has a wire harness for a Conquest (Starion) and it will run off Mega Squirt" software so you can fime tune it. For bigger turbo setups. The cars are very good they do have there problems. Leaking injectores, bad injector clips, air mass, relays, wire harness problems, Alt. 65 amp way to small, old style head could crack, parts way to high, power steering leaks, and exhaust could crack under turbo. I had about 6 cars and I love them. there were way before there time. Sometimes it is a Ele. nightmare. You can buy upgrades for all the problems or mods , I have said. The 1st one I drove off the show room floor , 6 yrs later never went to the dealer for any repair other than oil changes, My Blowzilla twin sets all the time , way to much. If I charged it up I would go to calif. and not even think twice.. When they are right you cant find any thing better. When I built my motor for my car it had about 200,000.0 plus miles. set the crank and block to the Mech shop. If was set back up with std. main bearings It was right in factory spec's . the car had 75000.0 when I bought it. I never looked back. I'm looking for more all the time !!! and they are going up in price. Good clean ones !
